The Robertet Group announced that Jérôme Bruhat will take up his position as Deputy Chief Executive Officer as of February 1, 2022. This appointment is an important event in the evolution of the Group’s governance, and comes after a very good year in 2021, a sign of vigorous growth and the great strength of its activities. In a turbulent global economic context, the group has been able to assert its leadership position in all its natural product ranges – a guarantee of its independence – while ensuring that the ambitious lines of development in terms of Social and Environmental Responsibility that it has set itself are upheld.

Jérôme Bruhat’s arrival in the General Management team is the result of a selection process carried out in 2021. It comes in the framework of the dissociation of the functions of its Chairman and Chief Executive Officer, Philippe Maubert, which will take effect following the General Assembly in June 2022. At that time, Philippe Maubert will assume the role of non-executive Chairman of the group and Jérôme Bruhat that of Chief Executive Officer.

Jérôme Bruhat joins the Robertet Group after more than 3 decades with the L’Oréal Group. Aged 54, he has been President of the L’Oréal Group in Japan since 2015. There, he developed the business of the various divisions, the Innovation and Industry activities, and made acquisition of a local company. He began his career in 1991 in the Public Products division in France as Product Manager, before moving on to General Management positions in Belgium, Germany, Japan and the United States. Among other positions, he was Global Brand Director of Maybelline New York and President of L’Oréal Germany.

Counter Brands, LLC – parent company of Beautycounter, the leader in clean beauty – has announced that Marc Rey has been appointed Chief Executive Officer, effective February 1, 2022.  Founder Gregg Renfrew, will serve as the company’s Executive Chair and Chief Brand Officer. In partnership with Renfrew, Rey will focus on operationalizing Beautycounter’s mission to lead and define the future of the global beauty industry, further accelerating its strategic initiatives by increasing brand awareness as well as bolstering the company’s innovative, integrated, omnichannel business model.

“As the Founder of Beautycounter, my focus is on the future of our company to ensure we continue to lead our industry toward a better place. Marc is aligned with my ambitious vision for Beautycounter and our continued role in defining the industry’s evolution,”  said Renfrew. “His track record of scaling and optimizing businesses, proven ability to develop talented teams, and commitment to changing beauty for the better make him a natural fit as we continue to pursue long-term growth and expansion.”

“I am thrilled to join Gregg and her team at Beautycounter, the undeniable pioneer of clean beauty. Under Gregg’s leadership, the company has led widespread industry transformation and a movement that continues to gain momentum,” said Rey, “I look forward to working with Gregg to build on the success the company has achieved over the past decade, and to execute a business strategy that will set us up for continued growth and impact in the decades to come.”

In her new role, Renfrew will expand her work on areas that remain critical to Beautycounter’s mission — and to the industry overall — including community engagement and empowerment, brand innovation and awareness, and social mission and advocacy. Renfrew has paved the way for cosmetic reform in an industry with regulations that have stood largely unchanged since 1938. She was selected as the first founder of a beauty brand to testify in front of Congress in 2019, and her advocacy has resulted in the passage of 10 pieces of legislation since she founded Beautycounter in 2011.

Rey joins Beautycounter after most recently serving as CEO and Global Chief Growth Officer of Shiseido Americas. He successfully led a portfolio of global brands, including NARS, bareMinerals, Drunk Elephant, and Laura Mercier, with a particular emphasis on the digital and technological development of the group. Prior to joining Shiseido in 2015, he was Senior Vice President of Coty North America, and President of IDC at L’Oréal USA. Throughout his career, Rey has demonstrated an ability to scale companies experiencing rapid growth and to operationalize a larger mission. At Beautycounter, Rey will focus on furthering Beautycounter’s ambitious and multifaceted mission by continuing to evolve its omnichannel strategy and identifying new opportunities that unlock the company’s potential.

This partnership is the natural next step in accelerating Beautycounter’s growth. Beautycounter has experienced a rapid rise since it was founded in 2011, including its most recent $1 billion valuation as part of its partnership with Carlyle. This decision further positions Beautycounter for continued expansion, and the company’s vision remains clear: to become the world’s most trusted and admired beauty brand — available when, how, and where its customers want.

Beautycounter is a mission-driven, digitally native, clean beauty brand that has continued to lead and define the future of the global beauty industry since it was founded in 2011. The company’s efforts have led the way for ingredient innovation and transparency, having introduced The Never List™ to ensure over 1,800 questionable or potentially harmful ingredients are never used in its product formulations as part of its Blueprint for Clean; achieved clinically proven product efficacy, creating award-winning makeup and skin care, driving consumer loyalty; and prioritized advocacy to advance personal-care product safety. This consumer-first combination is what Beautycounter strives to consistently deliver for its community, and what sets it apart as the leader in the beauty industry.

Coty has appointed Sue Y. Nabi as Chief Executive Officer, effective September 1, 2020. Peter Harf will be elevated to the role of Executive Chairman and will work closely with Nabi to lead Coty’s transformation.

Anna von Bayern

The company also announced that it is strengthening its Executive Committee with the addition of Princess Anna of Bavaria, who is joining the company as Coty’s Chief Corporate Affairs Officer, and Kristin Blazewicz, Coty’s Chief Legal Officer and General Counsel.

Peter Harf, Coty’s founder and Executive Chairman, said: “There is no better person to run our company than Sue. She knows and loves the business and is a true-blooded entrepreneur, having created the visionary Orveda line that shows us where the modern consumer is headed.”

Princess Anna of Bavaria, known as Anna von Bayern, is a journalist, moderator and bestselling author. She started and anchored the first political talk show at BILD, Germany’s most widely followed media brand. She is highly regarded by her peers in the press and brings a unique understanding of both the beauty industry and the communications landscape to her new role.

“I am thrilled to be a part of this next generation of leadership at Coty, guiding the team through a time of fundamental change,” said von Bayern of her new position.

Kristin Blazewicz

Kristin Blazewicz joined Coty in March 2020 after having advanced through the ranks of the legal affairs team at Keurig Dr Pepper, Inc. She brings a wealth of senior experience essential to Coty’s business to her role. Kristin has lived and worked in her native United States, the Netherlands and China, which has provided her with a truly global perspective for her work at Coty.

Strategic Leadership Team

Peter Harf is Executive Chairman of Coty.

Effective September 1, 2020, the Executive Committee will comprise five members:

  • Sue Y. Nabi, Chief Executive Officer
  • Anna von Bayern, Chief Corporate Affairs Officer
  • Kristin Blazewicz, Chief Legal Officer and General Counsel
  • Pierre-André Terisse, Chief Operating Officer and Chief Financial Officer
  • Gordon von Bretten, Chief Transformation Officer

Coty announced its partnership with KKR in June 2020 and continues to drive the transformation. Important next priorities for the newly expanded Executive Committee will be to oversee the realignment of Coty’s strategy, as well as the creation of a new company culture.

Nabi, a recognized global innovator and beauty industry entrepreneur, is the founder and CEO of the new-age luxury skincare line, Orveda. Previously, she served as Worldwide President of both L’Oréal, and Lancôme, during her 20-year tenure at L’Oréal.

Harf commented: “Sue is renowned as a visionary and ongoing game-changer whose outstanding creativity is celebrated in the beauty industry. I am proud that she now wants to bring her unique sense of inspiration to Coty.”

“Peter and Coty’s leadership have laid the groundwork to revitalize an iconic beauty business,” said Nabi. “I’ve been following their progress avidly and am inspired and energized by the opportunity to proudly lead the global Coty team into the future as we build the new, more modern Coty.”

After having championed the diversity of beauty and beauty marketing in L’Oréal where Nabi helped boost the growth of its makeup brands, she was then named the youngest President in the company’s history. She followed that success with her revival of Lancôme including breakthrough product and brand successes which resulted in double-digit growth in makeup and skincare.

Nabi also introduced revolutionary campaigns for cosmetics and skincare appealing to a wider, more global demographic. A facility to build and manage diverse, multi-functional global teams was a hallmark of Nabi’s success. She resigned from L’Oréal in 2013 and began a new life in London. A shift in lifestyle and a personal health journey inspired the launch, along with co-founder Nicholas Vu in 2017, of the breakthrough clean, vegan, ultra-luxury skincare brand, Orveda.

As CEO, Nabi will spend considerable time in Coty’s global business offices in Amsterdam, London, New York and Paris.

Cosmetics and personal care products leaders representing 59 countries traveled to join executives, innovators, and other industry professionals for the 2019 Personal Care Products Council’s (PCPC) Annual Meeting. In addition to recognizing the previous year’s achievements and examining the state of today’s global marketplace, the meeting presented a special opportunity to reflect upon the beauty industry’s past, present, and future as PCPC celebrates its 125th anniversary.

“For more than a century, our industry has provided significant well-being and economic value to society,” said PCPC President and CEO Lezlee Westine as she welcomed attendees. “Together, with the millions of consumers worldwide who trust and depend on our products every day, we look forward to a shared future grounded in safety, quality, and innovation.”

Said future, however, is bound to include challenges, Westine acknowledged. In collaboration with the featured speakers, PCPC facilitated insightful conversations about the business strategies, policy changes, and guiding principles that will enable its member companies to overcome obstacles and join together in the pursuit of Creating a More Beautiful World, the theme of this year’s meeting.

The program included discussion surrounding the following topics: “How Artificial Intelligence Will Change the Way We Live and Think,” “Future Proofing our Business: Microforces, Challenges & Opportunities,” “Leadership Perspectives on Sustainability Value Creation and Growth,” “Transforming your brand in the new age of wellness-driven marketing: Pinterest and the wellness megatrend,” “The Role of Influence in the Consumer Decision Journey,” and “Environmentally Responsible Packaging in Corporate Sustainability Initiatives.”

New to this year’s Annual Meeting were four workshops, which offered a comprehensive assessment of the following subjects in a smaller, more intimate setting: “An International Standard for Natural and Organic Cosmetics,” “What’s Happening with Brexit?,” “Cannabis & Cosmetics,” and “Chinese Regulatory & Trade Update.”

Also unveiled at this year’s meeting was PCPC’s forward-thinking sustainability initiative, which will be given significant weight in the upcoming year. The objectives of the program are as follows:

  • To advance member company sustainability practice and know-how;
  •  To expand and enhance the industry’s robust sustainability narrative;
  • And, to provide a strategic framework and focus for PCPC action, resources, and committee work.

“Our world is changing fast, and there are daunting social and environmental global challenges that can’t be solved, by one just institution or company,” said Westine. “By working with each other and with like-minded organizations, our industry has the opportunity to play an important role in creating a more beautiful future.”

“We don’t have to choose between public health and the environment. We can protect both,” George Calvert added, who was elected to serve as the Board of Directors’ Chair for the second consecutive year.

The Board of Directors, as elected in its entirety at the Annual Meeting, is as follows:

Chairman:  George Calvert, Chief Supply Chain Officer, Amway

Vice Chairs: Esi Bracey, Executive Vice President & Chief Operating Officer NA Beauty and Personal Care, Unilever

David Greenberg, Group President of Professional Products Division North America, L’Oréal

                      Alex Keith, CEO, P&G Beauty

Jeff Smith, Global Chief Transformation Officer, Johnson & Johnson

Secretary: Andrew Stanleick, Senior Vice President, Consumer Beauty Division, Coty

Treasurer: David Holl, President and Chief Executive Officer, Mary Kay Inc.

“We have a very bright future ahead,” said Calvert. “We carry a legacy of creativity, innovation, passion, responsibility, and entrepreneurship. We exhibit these traits every day through the thousands of new formulas, products, and patents we create and file every year, and the loyalty of the families who use and trust our products.”
