Symrise is now offering the green version of its SymDiol® 68, originally developed in 2003: It consists of 100% green raw materials. The modern mixture moisturizes the skin, stabilizes emulsions and improves product protection. The cosmetics industry will also benefit from its easy use and high degree of efficacy. Additional advantages: SymDiol® 68 green works well with all formulation types and supports green labels.

Consumers are growing increasingly aware of sustainability. This boosts industry demand for environmentally friendly versions of ingredients for the manufacture of green products. For this reason, Symrise is expanding its successful SymDio concept. It is introducing the first green version of the 1,2-alkanediol mixture, SymDiol® 68 green, to the market.

As a synergistic combination, SymDiol® 68 green consists of two 100% green 1,2-alkanediols, caprylyl glycol and 1,2-hexanediol. The high-performance mixture is water soluble and cold processable, and it featuresclear, colorless and nearly odorless characteristics. The unique combination can also go into green formulations.

SymDiol® 68 green offers the following main benefits:

  • Efficient skin moisturizing
  • Stabilization of o/w emulsions due to smaller droplet sizes
  • Effective product protection enhancement
  • Microbiome friendliness
  • Suitability for normal to sensitive skin types

Recently, various green multifunctional ingredients, including green 1,2-alkanediols, have entered the market. Symrise contributed to this by launching Hydrolite® 8 green and Hydrolite® 6 green. Their synergistic combination, SymDiol® 68 green, sets the next milestone of innovation.

Symrise leads with green multifunctional ingredients

The global company already plays a leading role in the market for green ingredients. “With SymDiol® 68 green, we are expanding our position in the growing market for green products,” says Dr. Nikolas Bugdahn, Director New Molecules Synthesis Cosmetic Ingredients Division at Symrise. “We are strengthening our position as the leading provider of modern product protection ingredients for our customers and always staying one step ahead.” Symrise offers green pentylene glycol, caprylyl glycol, 1,2-hexanediol, and 1,2-heptanediol.

“We strive to continue producing innovative green ingredients for our modern product protection portfolio. With the green variantsof caprylyl glycol and 1,2-hexanediol, we can replace the components of the very successful synergistic mixture SymDiol® 68. We are now offering customers a 100% green version,” says Dr. Balint Koroskenyi, Senior Global Product Manager at Symrise.

Symrise will present Crinipan® PMC green, its novel anti-dandruff active, with an online webinar on May 27th. The new molecule’s efficacy is based on an innovative mode of action, and it shows comparable results to established anti-dandruff actives. Symrise Cosmetic Ingredients are in a pioneer position to combine such effectiveness with an entirely bio-based solution.

Consumers have increasingly high expectations regarding their cosmetics: Products should reflect the trend to be more natural, sustainable, and at the same time, be as effective as conventional solutions. With Crinipan® PMC green, Symrise fulfills this desire for an anti-dandruff active. The new ingredient has clinically proven effectiveness and targets the cause of dandruff with an innovative mode of action: The ingredient´s anti-dandruff effect is activated by the dandruff-causing yeast Malassezia itself.

Until now, producers of anti-dandruff products mainly had to rely on three established anti-dandruff actives: zinc pyrithione, climbazole and piroctone olamine. Aside from some multifunctional ingredients, no major anti-dandruff active has been released onto the market for decades.

By launching Crinipan® PMC green, Symrise opens up completely new perspectives for cosmetic manufacturers and their dandruff control strategies. They will be able to achieve benchmark efficacy by using a 100 % bio-based, environmentally friendly anti-dandruff active. This is particularly relevant for serving the naturalness trend in personal care.

“More than 45 years of expertise in the area of Micro Protection enable us to launch Crinipan® PMC green. We also thank Professor Dr. Peter Mayser, a renowned dermatologist and dedicated expert in Malassezia research for his constant support during our joint research project with the University of Giessen on dandruff”, explains Dr. Christin Koch, Head of Microbiology Research at the Global Innovation Cosmetic Ingredients Division of Symrise. “Our first active ingredient, climbazole, dates back to the year 1975. Crinipan® AD (climbazole) has for years been a proven and established ingredient on the cosmetics market. After many years of extensive research and development we are now launching the next generation active, which particularly stands out with its innovative mode of action.”

“Developing green products like Crinipan® PMC green is in line with the Symrise corporate sustainability strategy,” says Dr. Florian Genrich, Senior Global Product Manager Skin Protection at Symrise. “In future we are going to continue our path of developing more and more natural ingredients to serve our customer´s and consumer´s needs.”

As the most innovative active ingredient in the category scalp/skin barrier/redness, Crinipan® PMC green recently won the prestigious first place in the BSB Awards 2020. Symrise will present the product in an online webinar on 27 May 2020 via in-cosmetics organizer Reed Exhibitions Ltd.

LUXE PACK NEW YORK DOES NOT LET PACKAGING GO TO WASTE

We want to highlight our constant focus on sustainability. We hosted the Green Awards, of course. In our practices, we are trying to be greener as well with reusable booths. Our newest initiative targets a zero waste show. In partnership with our show contractor, FB and Alma, we organized the collection, compacting and recycling of all the carpet and secondary plastic items,” Grosdidier continued.

THE CONFERENCES

Eighty percent of this year’s sessions were standing room only. The CBD and sustainability sessions, both on day one, were the best attended, however.

Introduced by LuxePack’s Linda Villalabos, Designer Marc Rosen is always one of the most popular speakers, and attendance was standing room only for the seminar he moderated on THE INSPIRATION CROSSOVER with Valerie Aurilio of Landor; Rui Pereira of Google; Sandra Monteparo of Victoria’s Secret; and Kevin Shaw of Stranger & Stranger. Inspiration is the common denominator that connects creativity, technology, marketing and innovation. Whether packaging a fragrance, a laptop, tequila or candy, allog these elements are channeled by the designer to inspire their creations.

CONNECTING WITH TODAY’S CONSUMER: THE ROLE OF CLAIMS AND TRANSPARENCY

Activism geared toward the beauty industry combined with distrust of big corporations has created a unique landscape. The current market reality is that consumers more engaged than ever with what they buy wanting to know EVERYTHING about the products they are using. Transparency and honesty in all aspects including ingredients, methods of farming, the impact of the package on the environment and of course safety and effectiveness, are all brand elements open for discussion.  This panel discussed what claims are the most coveted by today’s consumers, what buzzwords to stay away from and how brands can thrive when all elements seamlessly come together.
