On August 6th, Ariana Grande posted a photo on Instagram of a fragrance bottle emerging from a broken heart. The caption read, “coming to @ultabeauty august 18th,” followed by a hashtag #thankunext.

We reached out to Luxe Brands and here’s what they told us…

Grammy winner Ariana Grande, has bottled the brilliance of her anthem “thank u next” into the ultimate fragrance, THANK U, NEXT. This highly anticipated fragrance, in partnership with LUXE Brands, will launch exclusively on Ulta.com August 18, 2019 and in stores nationwide at Ulta Beauty in the United States and Shoppers Drug Mart in Canada on September 1, 2019.   

The THANK U, NEXT fragrance embodies Grande’s smash hit “thank u, next”, which debuted at number one on the Billboard Hot 100, and at the time, went on to break the record for the most-watched music video with 55 million YouTube views in under 24 hours. “Thank u, next” has become the catch phrase of the year, symbolizing moving on and looking up; taking control in a positive and self-affirming way, always with a sense of humor.

Coming off the exciting win of the 2019 Fragrance Foundation’s Fragrance of the Year Award (Women’s Popular) for Cloud in June, Grande understood the importance of building a strong platform for her next brand and was the visionary behind extending the “thank u, next” franchise into fragrance. The THANK U, NEXT brand has a sexy playfulness and sensibility that is empowering for her fans around the world.

“For the THANK U, NEXT fragrance campaign, Grande and LUXE Brands again partnered with Hannah Lux Davis to seamlessly weave Grande’s newest fragrance creation into the “thank u, next” world,” explains Noreen Dodge, Chief Marketing Officer of LUXE Brands. “Ariana’s creative vision for THANK U, NEXT perfectly communicates the combination of sexiness and sweetness, while cleverly conveying the details of Ariana’s latest fragrance in a fresh, modern way that is both authentic to Ari and unique to the category.”

Says Grande, “I wanted to make a fragrance that smells related to my first fragrance, Ari, but more summery, so I revisited Ari’s fruity pear and raspberry notes and changed it up by adding some coconut. I was inspired to design a bottle that represented the message of my song “thank u next” – the emergence of the perfume from the broken heart represents moving forward from a challenging chapter.”

Crafted by Robertet’s Jerome Epinette, the perfumer and artisan behind Byredo and Atelier Cologne, Jerome was inspired to develop a new olfactive territory with the THANK U, NEXT fragrance. A creation that disrupts the gourmand space by layering beautiful florals and a textured musk for a more transparent, but still addictive signature to the fragrance.

The Fragrance Foundation hosted its Creatives panel on Tuesday, October 23rd, at the Morgan Library in New York City featuring Atelier Cologne founders and creators Sylvie Ganter and Christophe Cervasel who were joined by Robertet Perfumer Jerome Epinette.The conversation will be moderated by Ann Gottlieb, fragrance developer and 2018 Fragrance Foundation Awards Hall of Fame Honoree, known for her masterful work across many fragrance categories. The Creatives panels are designed as an exclusive behind-the-scenes exploration of the collaborative process between leading industry creatives.

“We are thrilled to present this panel of talented creatives who embody the artistry and passion that fuels the fragrance world,” said Linda G. Levy, president of The Fragrance Foundation.

Ganter and Cervasel are credited with creating a new olfactive family, Cologne Absolue, a pure perfume inspired by the legendary Eau de Cologne. They are also known as story tellers, capturing “treasured memories” in a bottle with each of their creations. Ganter, Cervasel and Epinette have collaborated on many Atelier Cologne fragrances.

“Choosing Robertet was an obvious choice.  We wanted to work with family houses where the know-how was about naturals,” said Sylvie Ganter, Co-founder of Atelier Cologne.

“Coming from Robertet, I have access to those beautiful natural ingredients and sometimes I can start the creation based on one ingredient,” said Jerome Epinette, Robertet Chief Perfumer.  Speaking of his collaboration with Sylvie and Christophe, he continued, “what I like is that it’s like a two-way street.”

Launched in 2009, Atelier Cologne is sold in more than 30 countries and has 18 free standing stores from Paris to New York including San Francisco and Hong Kong. Atelier Cologne extended its presence in the US with the grand opening of a flagship boutique at 950 Madison Avenue, on October 26th, with a festive ribbon-cutting by Ganter and Cervasel with L’Oreal’s Xavier Vey and Alexandre Choueiri.

“Our intention was never to create a natural brand. We wanted to create a genuine brand, an authentic brand but they’ve showed us sides or facets of our brand that we didn’t even express,” said Sylvie Ganter, Co-founder of Atelier Cologne of working with L’Oréal.
