Constantin Sklavenitis has recently joined M•A•C Cosmetics as Senior Vice President, General Manager, M·A·C – North America.

Sklavenitis will be responsible for leading the strategy execution for M·A·C North America, partnering with the Global M·A·C and the Global Retail Channel teams to grow across all channels and to increase the brand’s market share in key categories. He will build on M•A•C’s strong heritage in artistry, inclusion, trendsetting, and expression of individuality to ensure it is able to engage our consumers in a meaningful way with authentic storytelling, high quality products and strong social and digital campaigns.

He will be charged with evolving the brand’s omnichannel strategy and driving meaningful differentiation to win in Direct-to-Consumer with M•A•C Freestanding Stores and Online in an integrated way with a consistent brand voice, while elevating its department store and specialty-multi business through stronger collaboration and differentiated product and service offering.  Constantin will drive M·A·C’s North America digital marketing strategy, and will improve consumer engagement across all touch points to deliver locally relevant in-store activations leveraging our rich catchment data to capture granular opportunities. He will ensure full funnel media sufficiency with clearly targeted consumer strategies that address the diverse consumer through culturally relevant and diverse advertising to maintain and attract Gen Z and Millennial consumers.

Sklavenitis joins M•A•C from L’Oreal where he has led an accomplished 22-year career creating business models and growing sales for multiple brands around the world, most recently with Urban Decay. His last role was Deputy General Manager for Urban Decay US where he was responsible for the sales strategy and P&L for all US retailers and oversaw the brand’s global e-commerce strategy, achieving double digit growth in all countries. Prior to that he was Deputy General Manager, Global Business Development for Urban Decay and It Cosmetics where he led the integration of both newly acquired brands within the L’Oreal Luxe portfolio and created winning global business models for both brands, launching in 25 priority countries. Before that, Constantin was SVP Global Business Development for Kiehl’s where he built the brand’s global strategy resulting in phenomenal sales growth, increased freestanding store openings and multiple e-commerce launches worldwide. Prior to moving to the US, Constantin lived in Prague as General Manager for all L’Oreal Luxe brands across the Czech Republic and Slovakia, where he heavily increased market share and doubled the size of the portfolio business, and was then based in Paris as General Manager, Europe where he launched and expanded multiple L’Oreal Luxe alternative brands.

Elliot will report to Philippe Pinatel, Senior Vice President/General Manager, M·A·C Cosmetics. Elliot will also add a matrix reporting line to John Demsey, Executive Group President, The Estée Lauder Companies. Elliott will lead all strategy, conceptualization and execution of the creative process that drives the global image for M·A·C Cosmetics in disruptive ways across all touch points of the consumer journey, including retail, digital, packaging, visual merchandising and multiplatform experiences.
In his role, Elliott will further evolve the brand’s strong heritage in artistry, inclusion and diversity, trendsetting and expression of individuality to ensure M·A·C continues to be the premier storyteller in a competitive beauty landscape. “Drew’s ability to translate consumer data points into creative ideas – coupled with his deep knowledge of fashion, beauty, pop-culture and entertainment – make him ideally suited to lead creative while fueling the next chapter of M·A·C’s growth,” said Philippe Pinatel, Senior Vice President/General Manager, M·A·C Cosmetics.
Elliott’s wide-ranging accomplishments and industry recognition reflect his visionary eye and his unique ability to create content that both resonates with global audiences and inspires desired business outcomes. Before coming to M·A·C Cosmetics, Elliott held the position of Creative Director of ENTtech Media Group which acquired PAPER Magazine. In 2016, Drew was tapped as Creative Consultant and joined the cast of judges on the top-performing series “America’s Next Top Model.”

Every day is World AIDS Day at M•A•C and on the official World AIDS Day (December 1st) M•A•C mobilized its support through artist volunteer efforts, social vocalization, in-store activations, and global support. The entire M•A•C community gave back.

The M∙A∙C AIDS Fund, the philanthropic arm of M∙A∙C Cosmetics launched in 1994 and is a leader in the global fight against HIV and AIDS, supporting organizations in more than 100 countries and territories that are working to combat the epidemic and improve the lives of people living with and affected by HIV/AIDS.

The M∙A∙C AIDS Fund is supported exclusively by a consumer-based model that directs 100% of the selling price of VIVA GLAM Lipstick to help fight HIV/AIDS.

 To date, the campaign has raised more than $490 million.

 As the largest corporate non-pharmaceutical HIV/AIDS funder, the M∙A∙C AIDS Fund strives to make a meaningful difference in the lives of people living with and affected by HIV/AIDS. It focuses on highlighting the link between poverty and AIDS, and strengthening services available to underserved populations. As the beauty industry continues to allocate significant funds and advertising dollars into influencer marketing, MAC Cosmetics has reached out to 12 global ambassadors to embark on a partnership where each influencer is given the opportunity to design their own packaging and colors, as well as promote their own custom MAC Maker Lipstick.

The ambassadors have been delegated specific markets: Nyma Tang is set to concentrate on the U.S. market launching Sept 13th; Patricia Bright on the U.K.; and Maine Mendoza on the Philippines. Canada, Chile, Mexico, Brazil, Russia, the Middle East, Germany and Spain are other key regions to the program. Interest in Tang’s launch directly followed a post made in early January that received over 26,000 likes and 1,000 comments.

Data released by Launchmetrics, a launch-to-market platform with clients such as Dior, Porsche, and Levi’s in its The State of Influencer Marketing report shows that “Eighty percent of professionals in fashion, luxury and cosmetics activated campaigns with influencers, and their budgets for the coming year were projected to grow.”  

MAC has also worked alongside YouTube and beauty sensation Patrick Starrr and seen a successful outcome. The MAC x Patrick Starrr collection has earned an estimated $10.9 million from ambassadors, while the #MACPatrickStarrr hashtag has garnered $7.6 media value (EMV) where“nearly 50 percent of influencers used the hashtag in more than one post, indicating a sustained interest in the collaboration.” Patrick Starr is set to launch her 4th collection with MAC Cosmetics, Destination Diva, on Sept 6th.

Morphe and Colourpop are other examples of the successes of working with influencers. Morphe was founded in 2008 with the intentions of designing a brand “created for the creators” and a “reputation was both founded-in, and accelerated by, the influencers that have consistently reviewed and used the brand’s products on their social pages.” The website lists collaborations with such notable influencers as Jeffree Star, Manny MUA, and James Charles as “Morphe Babes” and released a collaboration with Bretman Rock, launching the Morphe x Bretman Rock Babe in Paradise Highlighter Palette. The palette earned a spot within the first quarter’s top 15 mass cosmetics products. Similarly, Coulourpop has worked closely with influencers Kathleen Lights and Karen Gonzalez. With each influencer posting upwards of 63 times in 2017 regarding the brand, many predict that influencer collaborations will become the new normal for the beauty industry.

Despite influencer collaborations remaining a small percentage of the overall market, they allow influencers the opportunity to build their following and potentially develop their own lines in the future. Huda Kattan saw success after starting her own beauty blog and selling a stake of her brand to TPG Capital. She soon procured a credible reputation among beauty fanatics and influencers alike, and gained publicity through Kim Kardashian. Kattan is now valued at approximately $1 billion.
