Symrise invites its guests on a grand journey through eleven countries to portrait 13 perfumers. Journalists from Nez magazine and photographers from the Tendance Floue collectively documented the excursions, which took them to places like the Amazon region, Singapore, Seville and Dubai. The perfumers transformed their experiences to create twelve unique fragrances. Visitors can now immerse into the compositions for themselves, alongside photos and texts, in Grasse. The exclusive insights showcase the multifaceted way that cultures around the world celebrate fine fragrances. The exhibit opens on July 19, 2019, with a cocktail party in the gardens of the Jean-Honoré Fragonard, 14 rue Jean Ossola in Grasse.

“Alice in Wonderland” serves as inspiration for the fragrance festival

Together with the “World Tour Through Scent” from Symrise, Grasse will be hosting many other attractions related to perfume and art as part of the festival. Visitors can experience dance, theater, music, fashion and street art on the streets and squares of the city. Shows, tours and competitions will also take place during the ten-day festival. The organizers of the festival from Fonds Baudelaire felt inspired by the story of “Alice in Wonderland,” by Lewis Carroll, so the streets of Grasse will also fill with characters like Alice, the White Rabbit and the Mad Hatter.

Recognized for the creation of A Lab on Fire’s Hallucinogenic Pearl

Emilie Coppermann received the prestigious Fragrance Foundation’s Perfume Extraordinaire Award on the evening of June 5th, 2019 at Lincoln Center’s David H. Koch Theatre in New York, hosted by Actress Jane Krakowski. The award was presented by acclaimed Fashion Designer Jason Wu and Anne Fulenwider, Editor-in-Chief, of Marie Claire magazine, at a black tie dinner in the presence of more than 900 guests from the global fragrance community, including celebrities and media, who came to celebrate the outstanding accomplishments of the brands, perfumers and visionaries of the fragrance world.

Coppermann was recognized for the creation of A Lab on Fire’s Hallucinogenic Pearl fragrance. A Lab on Fire® is a limited-production fragrance house, based in Brooklyn, New York. The 2019 Fragrance Foundation Perfume Extraordinaire Award Winner: Hallucinogenic Pearl includes top notes of ambrette seeds, bergamot, and pinkpepper berries; mid notes of violet, Iriseine De Laire, orris; and dry notes of suede, blond woods, and musks. Its olfactive family is floriental violet leather. Its style is vintage, sexy. Its mood is of “air warmed and stilled, the sky a hazy shade of blue. Coppermann has created fragrances for both luxury and niche brands. Initially, she was drawn to the idea of creating fascinating fragrances when she was a teen. She systematically pursued her dream and wound up studying chemistry. Her talent was recognized by perfumers Jean-Louis Sieuzac, and Dominique Ropion —who took her under his wing while at Symrise (Florasynth). They taught her the fundamentals of perfumery. Coppermann counts Master Symrise Perfumer Maurice Roucel as another of her well respected mentors.

The Carpenters Workshop Gallery produces and exhibits functional sculptures by international rising and already established artists and designers going outside their traditional territories of expression. The gallery is actively involved in the research and production of the limited edition works exhibited. The choices are guided by the research of an emotional, artistic and historical relevance that appears as an evidence. The gallery relies on the partnership of friends Julien Lombrail & Loic Le Gaillard who first opened a space in London’s Chelsea in 2006 in a former carpenter’s workshop; which was followed with a second space in Mayfair in 2008. They then returned to their roots by opening a 600-square meter space in Paris in 2011 in the heart of Le Marais district, an address steeped in history as it was previously occupied by the Galerie de France for several decades. In 2015, Carpenters Workshop Gallery | New York was opened. This new space confirms today the leadership and dominant position of the gallery in the international territory of art and design. In 2015 the gallery opened Carpenters Workshop | Roissy, a 8,000 m2 workshop for their artists. The gallery became the first to integrate a production facility dedicated to artistic research and development of collectible design and bringing together an elite team of artisans. In 2018 Carpenters Workshop Gallery announced the opening of it’s fourth gallery in San Francisco. The Château D’Atargny is the former home of the founder of the Prix François Coty. The historic place provided a decorous setting for the award ceremony. This year, Emilie Coppermann, Master Perfumer with Symrise Paris, took home the Lalique trophy, La Vitesse. “I feel very honored to receive this highly coveted prize within the perfumery industry. To me, it comes as a precious token for my creative work as perfumer. It will inspire me to continue my fragrant path for a better living through scent”, says Emilie Coppermann. The award ceremony will be preceded by an olfactory conference, hosted by Patricia de Nicolai, President of the Osmothèque de Versailles and Jean Kerléo, its founder.

The venerable François Coty Association

The Association François Coty, chaired by Véronique Coty, is dedicated to highlighting the extraordinary character of perfumery’s nobility to which its founder has contributed significantly. One of its major missions is to choose one laureate each year for the François Coty Award to reward a great perfumer. Perfumers qualify for the award if they have created a perfume of certain renown, launched the year prior to the award. The jury determines the laureate by smelling and evaluating the perfume anonymously. Former laureates include Jean Guichard, Sophie Labbé or Maurice Roucel.
