TOM FORD announced the appointment of Haider Ackermann as Creative Director, effective immediately. In his new role, Ackermann will assume the creative leadership across all TOM FORD fashion categories, including menswear, womenswear, accessories, and eyewear, and guide the creative vision for the overall brand. TOM FORD is owned by The Estée Lauder Companies   with the fashion business licensed to the Ermenegildo Zegna Group and the eyewear business licensed to Marcolin SpA.

Founder Tom Ford said, “I have long been a great fan of Haider’s work. I find both his womenswear and menswear equally compelling. He is an incredible colorist, his tailoring is sharp, and above all he is modern. We share many of the same historical references, and I could not be more excited to see what he does with the brand. I suspect that I will be the first on my feet to applaud after his show in March.”

A French national born in Bogotá, Colombia, Ackermann’s upbringing spanned Ethiopia, Chad, Algeria, The Netherlands, and Belgium, where he studied fashion at the Royal Academy of Fine Arts in Antwerp. Known for blending luxurious fabrics with impeccable tailoring, Ackermann has garnered acclaim for his avant-garde, yet wearable designs favored by celebrities.

“It is with tremendous pride that I will seek to honor the legacy of Tom Ford, a man I have long admired and have the utmost respect for,” said Ackermann. “I am much looking forward to what lies ahead.”

Ackermann’s first collection will debut at Paris Fashion Week in March 2025. He will be based in Paris, reporting to Guillaume Jesel, President and CEO, TOM FORD and Luxury Business Development, The Estée Lauder Companies, and to Lelio Gavazza, CEO, TOM FORD FASHION, Ermenegildo Zegna Group.

“Haider stands out as one of the world’s most visionary and inspiring talents in fashion. He draws on his deep affinity for global culture and the arts to create arresting fashion and memorable emotional connections. He is the ideal steward to usher TOM FORD into the future,” said Jesel.

“I am extremely pleased to welcome Haider as Creative Director of TOM FORD. His unparalleled creativity, which is aligned with the brand’s DNA, as well as his renowned experience in luxury will be instrumental in driving the fashion business forward during its next important phase of expansion. Working alongside the talented team at TOM FORD FASHION, Haider’s modern vision, for both men’s and women’s wear, will be essential as we advance and execute the many projects we have in development,” said Gavazza.

TOM FORD is a global design house offering exceptional luxury products across women’s and men’s fashion, accessories, eyewear and beauty. Founded in 2005 by Tom Ford, the brand has a presence in more than 100 markets globally and is widely recognized as the architect of luxury glamour. In 2023, The Estée Lauder Companies became the sole owner of the TOM FORD brand and all its intellectual property. In connection with the acquisition, The Estée Lauder Companies established long term licenses with Ermenegildo Zegna Group for TOM FORD FASHION and Marcolin for TOM FORD EYEWEAR.

The Estée Lauder Companies Inc. announced that it has signed an agreement to acquire the shares that it does not already beneficially own in Have & Be Co. Ltd., the Seoul-based, global skin care company behind Dr. Jart+ and men’s grooming brand Do The Right Thing. Expected to close in December 2019, the acquisition follows the Company’s December 2015 minority investment in Have & Be Co. Ltd. and is pursuant to an agreement made at that time. As one of the fastest growing skin care brands globally, Dr. Jart+ is expected to help further strengthen The Estée Lauder Companies’ leadership position in skin care, and will especially help expand the Company’s consumer reach in Asia/Pacific, North America, the United Kingdom and travel retail. This is the Company’s first acquisition of an Asia-based beauty brand.

Since December 2015, when the Company initially invested in Have & Be Co. Ltd., Dr. Jart+ has experienced significant growth and is expected to reach more than $500 million in net sales in calendar year 2019. Have & Be’s total enterprise is valued at approximately $1.7 billion, and The Estée Lauder Companies has agreed to acquire the remaining two-thirds of Have & Be Co. Ltd., net of cash acquired and subject to certain post-closing adjustments. The Company expects to fund this transaction with debt. The acquisition is subject to certain conditions, including regulatory approvals. In connection with the closing, the Company expects to have a non-cash gain on its initial investment in Have & Be Co. Ltd.

Founded in 2005 by CEO ChinWook Lee in Seoul, South Korea, Dr. Jart+ is a high-growth, global skin care brand fueled by cutting-edge innovation that offers a wide variety of high-performing skin care products. With a unique combination of dermatological science and art – as is reflected in the brand name, which is inspired by the phrase “Doctor Joins Art” – Dr. Jart+ appeals to a broad range of consumers and has a devoted following among millennials in Asia and the United States. Best known for its high-quality, on-trend skin care collections such as Cicapair and Ceramidin, the brand is renowned for its outstanding and fast-moving innovation pipeline and rapid speed-to-market capabilities. Sold through specialty-multi channels, travel retail, freestanding stores, high-end department stores and e-commerce sites in more than 35 countries globally, the brand offers a wide range of high-quality moisturizers, masks, cleansers and serums that are beloved for their innovative, breakthrough formulations.

“We have built an incredible, long-term partnership with ChinWook Lee and his terrific team over the last four years, and we are so pleased to officially welcome this fast-growing and globally beloved brand into our portfolio,” said Fabrizio Freda, President and Chief Executive Officer of The Estée Lauder Companies Inc. “As the Company’s first acquisition of an Asia-based beauty brand, Dr. Jart+’s focus on creating high-quality skin care products that fuse dermatological science, incredible innovation capabilities and artistic expression make it a terrific, strategic addition to our diverse portfolio of prestige beauty brands. We look forward to continued global growth in the years to come.”

“The Estée Lauder Companies is the ideal home for our brands,” said Mr. Lee, Founder and Chief Executive Officer of Have & Be Co. Ltd. “Since the beginning of our partnership four years ago, the Company has shared our mission to provide the very best skin care and beauty products to consumers around the world. We are excited for the opportunity to continue this partnership as we continue to innovate and grow our brands globally.”

“The entrepreneurial spirit and creativity of Dr. Jart+ is a perfect fit for The Estée Lauder Companies,” said William P. Lauder, Executive Chairman of The Estée Lauder Companies Inc. “As consumers increasingly focus on skin care and the category continues its rapid global growth, the influence of cutting-edge, scientifically-driven brands like Dr. Jart+ is undeniable. We are delighted to welcome ChinWook Lee and his entire team to our family.”

Jane Hertzmark Hudis, Group President, The Estée Lauder Companies Inc., will add Dr. Jart+ to the portfolio of brands that she oversees.

In this transaction, Perella Weinberg Partners LP served as financial advisor to The Estée Lauder Companies Inc., while Lowenstein Sandler LLP and Kim & Chang served as legal counsel. Have & Be Co. Ltd. received financial advice from Michel Dyens & Co. and legal counsel from Skadden, Arps, Slate, Meagher & Flom LLP and Bae, Kim & Lee LLC.

The forward-looking statements in this press release, including those in the quoted remarks and those relating to the expected closing date, expectations for the acquired brand and the benefits of the acquisition, involve risks and uncertainties. Factors that could cause actual results to differ materially from those forward-looking statements include the ability of the parties to satisfy the closing conditions under the definitive purchase agreement, current economic and other conditions in the global marketplace, actions by retailers, suppliers and consumers, competition, the Company’s ability to successfully integrate the acquired business and/or implement its long-term strategic plan, and those described in the Company’s annual report on Form 10-K for the year ended June 30, 2019.

The Breast Cancer Research Foundation (BCRF) held its annual Symposium and Awards Luncheon today at the New York Hilton Midtown. Hosted by ELLE Magazine Editor in Chief Nina Garcia, this year’s luncheon honored fashion legend Vera Wang with the Sandra Taub Humanitarian Award in recognition of her enduring dedication to BCRF and her profound philanthropic spirit, presented by Donna Karan.

BCRF 2019 Award Recipients Dr. Eric Winer amd Vera Wang

The Jill Rose Award for scientific excellence was presented to Dr. Eric Winer, of Dana-Farber Cancer Institute and Harvard Medical School, for his outstanding contributions as a clinician-scientist which have revolutionized the landscape of breast cancer treatments.

BCRF awarded $66 million in grants to nearly 275 researchers from around the world. Nearly 200 of these grantees were in attendance to be recognized for their innovative projects and contributions to the field. At a scientific retreat the day prior, researchers were provided the rare and critical opportunity to collaborate with their colleagues, across institutions, across disciplines, and across the world.

“I have always been drawn to BCRF in no small part due to its founder, the inimitable Evelyn Lauder, a woman I so admired,” said Vera Wang as she accepted her honor. “In a way this award today both reflects and belongs to her.”

Myra Biblowit, William P. Lauder, Nina Garcia, Donna Karan and Kinga Lampert

“Back in 2015, I discovered I had a gene mutation that put me at a high risk for breast cancer,” revealed Nina Garcia. “And when you get that news, you think, ‘Why me? What does this mean?’ I would wake up and think, ‘well, when is the day when I’m going to wake up and be diagnosed with cancer?’ Thanks to research, I had options, and it breaks my heart when I know that some women do not have options.”

The day began with a symposium moderated by BCRF Co-Scientific Directors, Drs. Larry Norton of Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center, and Judy Garber of Dana-Farber Cancer Institute. The panelists included Drs. Eric Winer of Dana-Farber Cancer Institute, Dawn Hershman of Columbia University, and Neil Iyengar of Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center.

Ms. Stanley will jointly report to William P. Lauder, Executive Chairman, and Fabrizio Freda, President and Chief Executive Officer. She will join the company’s Executive Leadership Team.

As Executive Vice President and General Counsel, Ms. Stanley will be responsible for The Estée Lauder Companies’ (ELC) Legal organization globally. She will act as a strategic advisor to the organization and to ELC’s Board of Directors on complex global legal issues and the company’s business interests going forward. In this critical role, she will lead the company’s legal strategy, practices, and policies globally. Ms. Stanley will act as a key partner to ELC’s executive leaders and business units across the organization on a wide range of legal matters including corporate strategies, reporting, compliance, risk mitigation, governance and complex business transactions. She will also lead the company’s legal review of potential acquisitions, divestitures, and joint ventures.

“Deirdre is a highly talented, proven General Counsel and seasoned executive whose global business acumen and legal expertise are matched only by her leadership capabilities and sound judgment,” said William P. Lauder. “Deirdre’s exemplary track record of leading large organizations and acting as a key strategic partner to multiple CEOs and Boards at a family- controlled, publicly traded company makes her uniquely suited to take on this role.”

Prior to joining ELC, Ms. Stanley served as General Counsel for The Thomson Reuters Corporation and its predecessor company for 17 years. After six years as Senior Vice President and General Counsel of The Thomson Corporation, Ms. Stanley was promoted to Executive Vice President and General Counsel following the acquisition of Reuters by Thomson in 2008. During her tenure, Ms. Stanley had roles of increasing responsibility, including serving as a member of the company’s Executive and Operating Committees, as Secretary to the company’s Board of Directors, and as a company-appointed director of Refinitiv, a financial markets data joint venture. As the company’s Chief Legal Officer, Ms. Stanley was responsible for worldwide legal affairs and operations with lawyers in more than 10 countries, including in North America, Europe, Asia and multiple emerging markets. Her responsibilities also included government and regulatory affairs. Ms. Stanley led a number of company-wide initiatives including establishing the company’s enterprise risk management program and acting as executive sponsor of various women’s leadership and other diversity initiatives.

“Deirdre’s exceptional career demonstrates her effectiveness as both a world-class General Counsel and strategic business leader capable of managing a global organization while staying focused on long-term growth and transformation,” said Fabrizio Freda. “Deirdre’s extensive expertise, sound judgment in both business as well as legal matters, and strong understanding of the unique environment in which ELC operates make her ideally suited for this role. Working closely with our Board of Directors, William and me, Deirdre will be a critical partner in driving ELC’s strategy for long-term sustainable growth.”

From 1999 to 2002, Ms. Stanley held roles of increasing responsibility at InterActiveCorp/USA Networks, Inc., now IAC. During this period, she honed her business and strategic skills initially as Deputy General Counsel and later in a dual role as divisional general counsel and head of business development for the company’s Electronic Commerce Solutions division.

After beginning her career at the esteemed law firm Cravath, Swaine and Moore, Ms. Stanley moved to the client side to pursue her interests in business. From 1997 to 1999, Ms. Stanley was Associate General Counsel for the GTE Corporation, a predecessor company to Verizon. In that role, she was the lead lawyer for domestic mergers and acquisitions.

HarperCollins Publishers announced the acquisition of a new book by the business leader who revolutionized the prestige beauty industry, Leonard A. Lauder. The deal for world rights was negotiated between VP & Publisher of Harper Business, Hollis Heimbouch and Robert Barnett of Williams & Connolly LLP. The new book, currently untitled, will be published in 2020.

The name Estée Lauder is synonymous with prestige beauty. The phenomenal success of this global empire—which began in his mother’s, Estée Lauder, kitchen—is largely due to the genius of Leonard Lauder and the brilliant team he assembled. Founded in 1946, The Estée Lauder Companies is one of the world’s leading manufacturers and marketers of prestige skin care, makeup, fragrance and hair care products, with annual sales of over $13 billion. The Estée Lauder Companies’ diverse portfolio is comprised of more than 25 brands sold in 150 countries and territories.

Lauder’s book is a personal memoir about growing up with the company and his famous mother, an insider’s account of building a global empire and a business book with pragmatic lessons on business, philanthropy, leadership and life. The book will be filled with extraordinary stories spanning fifty years of creating beauty and the lessons he learned along the way.

Lauder’s influence extends far beyond The Estée Lauder Companies. His strategic approach to philanthropy is a model of how to lead and leverage change in areas as diverse as museums, children’s playgrounds and breast cancer research and awareness—for which his late wife Evelyn co-created the iconic Pink Ribbon advocacy concept and campaign and founded the Breast Cancer Research Foundation.

As Lauder says, “Good ideas never go out of date: great ideas last forever.” In his thoughtful, warm-hearted, and wry voice, Lauder will share his great ideas and the secrets of his success—as well as lively stories, sharp observations and practical lessons about leadership and life.

As Estée Lauder, herself, once said, “Actresses are the epitome of beauty and glamour…”

And, in January, Danielle Lauder, the actress and great-granddaughter of Estée Lauder, will launch a limited-edition, seven-item makeup collection with the brand. Based in LA, she has named her collection Act IV — a nod to both her heritage as a fourth generation Lauder, and to her acting career.

Dani – as she is known to family and friends, declined to comment further about the line before its launch, but in a statement released by the company, she said “Act IV is a perfect blend of my heritage in beauty and my passion for acting, taking inspiration from my life in Hollywood to provide multifaceted makeup products for every woman to add a touch of glamour to her day.”  We hear the collection will consist of seven products and will launch via select influencer and retailer partnerships.

A graduate of Northwestern University, Dani studied film and theater, and has had starring roles in The Charnel House and The Stanford Prison Experiment. In 2018, she had a role in a short film Estée Lauder produced with global ambassador Karlie Kloss, and just recently starred in a music video called Bubble Gum on Count the Clock.

A mental health advocate, Dani spoke eloquently on the subject at the 2018 Beyond Beauty event for the James E. Marshall Foundation. She is also a supporter of the Breast Cancer Research Foundation founded in 1993 by her grandmother, Evelyn H. Lauder, which has raised more than $500 million for lifesaving research.

The future is bright for this rising star.

The Estée Lauder Companies Inc. announced this week that Sara E. Moss has been promoted to the newly created role of Vice Chairman, effective July 1, 2019. Ms. Moss is currently Executive Vice President and General Counsel and will continue in her role until a successor is named at a later date. She will jointly report to William P. Lauder, Executive Chairman, and Fabrizio Freda, President and Chief Executive Officer.

In this strategic role for the company, Ms. Moss will have several key areas of focus. First, she will serve as a senior advisor to Executive Management, the Board of Directors and the Lauder Family on issues critical to the business. Second, she will act as a liaison between the Lauder Family and the Board of Directors, while also helping to advance a framework to enable the company’s long-term, sustainable success as a family-controlled, public company. Third, Ms. Moss will work collaboratively with senior leaders across the organization to drive the company’s global programs focused on developing women as exceptional leaders, as well as women’s focused initiatives.

“Over the years, Sara has been an outstanding leader and critical partner to the Board and to me, consistently providing guidance based on sound judgment and a deep understanding of our business,” said William P. Lauder. “She will continue to play a critical role, working closely with Fabrizio and me, the Board and the Lauder Family, to ensure that our long-term business goals are met.”

Since joining the company in 2003, Ms. Moss has served as Executive Vice President and General Counsel, responsible for the company’s worldwide Legal organization and acting as a trusted strategic advisor to the business and the Board of Directors.

“Sara’s innovative leadership, strong business acumen and strategic guidance have proven to be invaluable to our business growth. As our organization continues to grow and evolve, her expertise and judgment will be important to help position our company for long-term success,” said Mr. Fabrizio Freda. “In addition, Sara’s passion for developing women leaders will build on Mrs. Estée Lauder’s legacy as a company ‘founded by a woman, for women’ and will further strengthen our ability to attract and retain the most talented women in the industry.”

Before joining The Estée Lauder Companies, Ms. Moss had a distinguished career as a lawyer and leader. As part of a small vanguard of women with many “firsts,” she was one of the first women litigators at a Wall Street law firm, part of the first small group of women federal prosecutors in the Criminal Division of the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Southern District of New York, and one of the first few women General Counsel in the Fortune 500. Sara has continuously demonstrated a passion for developing women leaders, having most recently established the Sara Moss Women’s Leadership Training Program at NYU Law School.

“Sara’s leadership and deep experience make her the perfect person to effectively take on this role of Vice Chairman,” said Ms. Rose Marie Bravo, a member of The Estée Lauder Companies’ Board of Directors. “I’m confident that Sara will continue to add value to the members of the Board, as well as advance the Company’s reputation as a best company to work for women.”

PRATT INSTITUTE COMMEMORATES 30th ANNIVERSARY OF MARC ROSEN SCHOLARSHIP AND EDUCATION FUND FOR PACKAGING BY DESIGN AT ART OF PACKAGING AWARD GALA

Gala Honors Beauty Luminary Jane Lauder with 2019 Art of Packaging Award

Pratt Institute, a global leader in higher education, welcomed luminaries of the packaging, design and fashion industries to its Art of Packaging Gala, which celebrates excellence in packaging design. The gala was held June 18th at a private club in Manhattan and raised funds for the Marc Rosen Scholarship Fund for Packaging by Design at Pratt Institute, the world’s only scholarship for master’s degree-level students looking to pursue careers in cosmetics and packaging design.

Jane Lauder, Global Brand President at Clinique, was presented with the Art of Packaging Award by Estée Lauder Executive Group President John Demsey, for her outstanding commitment to package design. The Art of Packaging Award is presented annually to a beauty industry company or individual that has excelled in the art form of package design.

The event was hosted by model and actress Carol Alt, and marked the 30th anniversary of the scholarship. In 2015, the fund established two full tuition scholarships focused on beauty packaging and design, the only one of its kind among higher education design institutions. To date, more than $4 million has been raised to fund scholarships and awards to more than 120 Pratt students, many of whom have become industry leaders. Jaynne Keyes, Appointee to the New York State Council on the Arts also presented Marc Rosen with a special proclamation of commendation from the Governor of New York for Marc’s continuing efforts to promote and enrich the NY culture and art communities.

Jane Lauder/Clinique joins previous recipients including Aramis & Designer Fragrances, Estée Lauder, Avon, Bath & Body Works, Calvin Klein, Coty Inc., Coty Prestige, Dior Beauty, Interparfums, Lancôme, M·A·C, Mary Kay Inc., P&G Prestige, Procter & Gamble, Ralph Lauren Fragrances, Shiseido, and others.

Additional special guests at the Art of Packaging Award Gala included Shining Sung, American Representative of the Chi Mei Museum of Taiwan; Pratt Institute President Frances Bronet; Philippe Delouvrier, Trustee at Connelly Foundation, and his wife, Carole Delouvrier; President and CEO at The Catholic Foundation of Long Island, Mark Ackerman; Susan Gutfreund, philanthropist and interior decorator, author, publisher and media executive; Randy Jones, and his wife, Connie Jones, and many others.

Marc Rosen is an internationally acclaimed entrepreneur and designer. He is Trustee Emeritus and an alumnus of Pratt Institute, where he teaches the world’s only course on cosmetics and Fragrance packaging design. Rosen’s cosmetics and fragrance packaging design course at Pratt Institute has attracted hundreds of students from around the world. The department that houses it, Graduate Communications Design, is part of Pratt Institute’s School of Design and was ranked as one of the top graduate graphic design programs in the country by U.S. News & World Report and collegecrunch.org.

This masters-level program comprises a broad-based curriculum in new product and package development, with courses in packaging design, brand development, visual communications, digital technology, marketing and structural packaging. The final stage of the program is the thesis, which, over two semesters, gives students an opportunity to develop an extensive and innovative project. The Graduate Communications and Package Design Department is chaired by Santiago Piedrafita.
