On World Meditation Day, May 21st, 2021, IFF’s Scent division launched its Science of Wellness program to address consumer desires for a more holistic approach to their wellbeing. The program, which builds on the Company’s more than forty years of research in fragrance and its impact on emotion and wellness, is designed to guide the creation of scents that support science-based consumer wellbeing, with emotional, cognitive and physical benefits.

Through the combination of neuroscience and consumer perception data, a best-in-class fragrance palette, and the use of its in-house artificial intelligence tool, created in 2006, IFF perfumers design scents that can be used in fast-moving consumer goods in the wellness space.

The Vitamin Shoppe has appointed Brian Hoke, as Vice President, General Manager , effective February 1, 2021.

Formerly, Chief Merchant of Lord & Taylor, he will oversee all merchandising functions, encompassing full ownership of P&L and all related margin drivers, including product, pricing, promotion, and inventory management.

Brian reports into Muriel Gonzalez, EVP, Chief Merchandising and Marketing Officer, who will partner with him to evolve The Vitamin Shoppe’s merchant-led mindset while accelerating our successes around product newness and customer experience.

This appointment brings to The Vitamin Shoppe an exceptionally skilled merchant with an extensive track record of driving sales, margin, and inventory turn in highly competitive retail sectors. Brian was most recently Chief Merchant at SHEEX Inc. since May 2020. In his over 25 years of senior merchandising experience, Brian has served as Chief Merchant of Lord & Taylor for two years (2018 – 2020) as well as Co-President of that iconic brand for the 7 months leading up to its acquisition in late 2019 by Le Tote. Earlier in his career, Brian spent 14 years at Macy’s in roles of increasing responsibility, including Group VP/DMM (Divisional Merchandise Manager) for Men’s Sportswear & Active, Group VP/DMM for Women’s Shoes, Group VP/DMM for Fragrance, and VP/DMM for Home. Brian started his career at Lord & Taylor as a Buyer for Men’s Furnishings & Tailored Clothing (1994 – 2003) after earning a degree in Economics from the State University of New York in Albany.

This reorganization shifts Inventory Planning and Pricing & Promotions into the Merchandising function in order to provide complete P&L ownership to Brian as he drives The Vitamin Shoppe’s strategy in this area.

The VP, GMM, role was vacant since Day Gooch took on responsibilities in The Vitamin Shoppe’s private brands business. Day Gooch was appointed VP, Quality and Commercialization, on Jan. 13.

In this newly created role, Mr. Gooch is responsible for the operational, scientific and regulatory, and commercialization aspects of The Vitamin Shoppe’s Private Brands business. As a licensed Doctor of Pharmacy with significant operational and merchandising expertise, Mr. Gooch will lead the sourcing of new manufacturers, strengthen execution with our existing manufacturers, lead our Science and Regulatory functions across both private brands and vendor brands, and re-engage with industry experts and associations within our industry. He will work closely with the Merchandising team, as well as Inventory Planning and Supply Chain, as The Vitamin Shoppe enhances Product Lifecycle Management and Sales & Operations Planning processes to enhance innovation and speed to market. Alana Stewart and George Hamilton were joined by Stem Cell Expert Joshua M. Hare, M.D., of the University of Miami Miller School of Medicine, during a ‘fireside chat’ at the home of Marzia & Dale Precoda in Palm Beach. More than sixty guests defied the pouring rain to meet Stewart, Hamilton and Dr. Hare –one of the world’s pioneers in stem cell therapy for heart disease and aging, at the private reception which took place on Tuesday, March 19, 2019.

Stewart and Hamilton spoke of the remarkable results and benefits they continue to experience as the result of the allogeneic stem cell treatments (40 minute intravenous infusions) they received.  “It’s been a thrill to participate in this stem cell program, and I feel it really helped my chronic fatigue syndrome and improved my bone density.  I’m excited its being tested for approval in the United States,” stated Alana Stewart.

After an amusing repartee among the formerly wedded couple, Dr. Hare presented a scientific presentation, entitled How To Stay Healthy To 120 Years of Age:  The Role of Stem Cells, during which he explained the state of the science and ongoing clinical trials in cell-based therapy research, and some published research results which have shown improved physical performance, strength and mobility, increased walking distance, improved cognition, increased sexual quality of life, and decreased blood markers of inflammatory disease. The fascinated crowd continued to engage asking questions well beyond the end of the presentation.

Fashion stylist and consultant Ann Caruso is known for her refined, classic sensibilities as well as the iconic images she has created in collaboration with some of the world’s most esteemed artists. Her innate sense of style and industry knowledge along with her illustrious career has taken her to the next level as a style innovator, fashion influencer and expert. That’s why we asked Ann to speak to Luxury at the American Influencer Association launch event this week in NYC where she was joined by Lifestyle/Wellness influencer Daphne Oz  – cohost of The Dish on Oz, a weekly series on The Dr. Oz show, and Gen Z Fashion Influencer Walter Harvin, of The Uncommon Magazine, on a panel of influencers and experts who spoke about Luxury, Lifestyle and Loyalty.

Ann’s career began as a design assistant at Ralph Lauren. Following her tenure at the iconic American fashion house, she embarked on a life changing career path when she went to work at VOGUE magazine and developed her reputation as a well-known fashion and accessories editor under the leadership of Anna Wintour.

Since then, Ann has built her brand as a high-profile freelance stylist with her work appearing in editorial publications such as Vanity Fair, Tatler, Town & Country, Instyle, O The Oprah Magazine, and Harper’s Bazaar, where Ann continues to be a Contributing Fashion Editor. In this role, she conceptualizes ideas and styles, overseeing the production of her shoots.

As an international celebrity stylist and fashion expert, she has worked with clients such as Elizabeth Hurley, Lynda Carter, Oprah Winfrey, Katherine Heigl, and Taraji P. Henson and was involved with one of the most talked about Hollywood weddings when she styled George Clooney’s family.  Ann’s ongoing work with high-profile private clients continues to grow as does her partnership with with designers and fashion brands.

Consulting with designers and fashion brands is one of her passions as she enjoys helping both emerging and established designers. Whether the brand is sold online or in brick-and-mortar, she solidifies their image in the marketplace through her work as a Brand Ambassador and consultant. As a style influencer, Ann is featured in various publications, on blogs and company Web sites, and collaborates with other top fashion leaders. With a loyal and engaged social media following and a reputation as an influential voice within the fashion industry, Ann is able to partner with select brands that she believes in, to successfully increase their sales and exposure.

As a two-time breast cancer survivor and activist,  Ann works with wellness and beauty brands to increase awareness.   Ann works with The Estee Lauder Companies on the Breast Cancer Awareness Campaign dressing Elizabeth Hurley in all pink!  She has been honored by Pink Aid, as well as the Susan G. Komen Foundation with the “Surviving With Impact Award” and was honored this last October by Fashion Fights Cancer by The Miami Design District.  Ann appears in the Breast Cancer Research Foundation ad campaigns and was featured in the 25th Anniversary of the Pink Ribbon documentary film. She is also on the Style Board of Glam4Good, a recipient of the Womenswear Stylist of the Year 2015 Award for The Daily’s annual Fashion Awards, and has been selected as one of VOGUE magazine’s 125 style influencers.

This week’s Spotlight shines on Daphne Oz, the natural foods chef and lifestyle influencer who’s turned her passion for food, healthy eating, body positivity, motherhood, and family into an lustrous media career. Health and wellness happens to run in the family; Daphne is the daughter of Dr. Mehmet Oz of the eponymous The Dr. Oz Show – on which she now appears weekly as co-host of The Dish on Oz.

You may know Daphne best from the Emmy award-winning ABC talk show The Chew, where she served as co-host for six seasons. Her humbling TV personality showed us, without condescension, how making better food choices meant making better lifestyle choices. And if we want to indulge a bit, well that’s OK too! Her brand messaging is and always has been about life’s balance between healthy and indulgent. She now cohosts a segment every Wednesday on her father’s weekday show called “The Dish on Oz,” where shares healthy eating tips and some of her delicious recipes like “Apple Crisp,” “Sautéed Shrimp with Papaya Salsa,” and “Hoisin-Glazed Pork and Turkey Meatloaf.”

Daphne is a New York Times best-selling author of four books, including 2006’s The Dorm Room Diet which launched her onto the public scene. Written while she was still an undergrad at Princeton University, she shared her struggles with weight gain and how she devised a healthy lifestyle plan to get back on track. Now the mother of three young children, Daphne has realistically documented her journey with postpartum weight loss across her social media without any image-doctoring or filtering. This caught the attention of media outlets such as E!, People, and MSN who praised her as a champion for mothers struggling with weight gain and self-doubt. 

And if seeing her on TV or reading her words in print weren’t enough, now you can hear Daphne as well.  She recently launched a podcast in late 2018 with her friend Hilaria Baldwin called Mom Brain, where they discuss all things motherhood from the good, to the bad, to the ugly. The girlfriends turned their off-air mommy conversations into an online forum and community where mothers could share their life experiences, rejoice and commiserate together.

Food, wellness and beauty brands are vying for a stake in Daphne’s ubiquitous and successful personal brand. She is now Chief Innovation Officer for Pure Spoon, the organic baby food manufacturer that cold-presses their purees (instead of heat-sealing) for a safer, more nutritious meal for your little one(s). She’s currently devising new flavors combinations for them. In case anyone was wondering where Supermodel Karolina Kurkova was on the “First Monday in May,” she was being a Super-Mom working at her pop-up shop at Ever After on Manhattan’s Upper East Side, launching of a new line of Herbal Wellness Products for Children called Gryph & IvyRose.

Many people know Karolina as the last of the true supermodels. She has had an enviable career having worked with the world’s top fashion designers, photographers and beauty editors and has graced the covers of Vogue, W and Harpers Bazaar multiple times to name a few. What some people don’t know, is that she is a mom to two boys and has a deep love and appreciation for all things natural. Growing up in the Czech Republic, Karolina was no stranger to family home remedies and experienced farming and growing food firsthand.
