The 2019 Gender-Equality Index highlights 230 firms that are trailblazers in their commitment to transparency in workplace gender reporting

The Estée Lauder Companies announced this week that it is one of 230 companies selected for the 2019 Bloomberg Gender-Equality Index (GEI) which distinguishes companies committed to transparency in gender reporting and advancing women’s equality. The index doubled in size from 2018 and includes firms from 10 sectors headquartered across 36 countries and regions. Collectively, these firms have a combined market capitalization of USD9 trillion and employ more than 15 million people, of which 7 million are women, around the world. Thirteen markets are represented for the first time this year and include Argentina, China, Israel and South Africa.

Bloomberg’s standardized reporting framework offers public companies the opportunity to disclose information on how they promote gender equality across four separate areas – company statistics, policies, community engagement and products and services. Reporting companies that score above a globally-established threshold, based on the extent of disclosures and the achievement of best-in-class statistics and policies, are included in the GEI.

The Bloomberg gender reporting framework is voluntary and has no associated costs. The GEI is a reference index. All public companies can submit data to Bloomberg. Those with a security listed on a U.S. exchange and a market capitalization of USD1 billion or greater are eligible for index inclusion. October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month and to mark the occasion, The Estée Lauder Companies’ Executive Chairman William P. Lauder and his team rang the bell of New York Stock Exchange and later hosted an event on behalf of The Estée Lauder Companies’ Breast Cancer Campaign with Breast Cancer Campaign Global Ambassador Elizabeth Hurley . Held at Bar SixtyFive at the Rainbow Room in New York City, the event honored The Campaign’s 26th Anniversary and its illumination of the Empire State Building in pink, marking the start of Breast Cancer Awareness month. Guests included actress Emma Myles, who also posed on the evening’s pink carpet.

This year, The Campaign is creating urgency around the need to take action now through a simple but universal call: it’s #TimeToEndBreastCancer. To date, The Campaign has raised more than $76 million globally, funding 250 medical research grants through the Breast Cancer Research Foundation ($62 million from total funds raised) and is active in more than 70 countries around the world. Yet, there is still work to be done, as virtually everyone continues to be affected by this disease and every 19 seconds, somewhere in the world, a woman is diagnosed with breast cancer. The Campaign has been at the forefront of the movement since the beginning, and The Estée Lauder Companies’ global commitment is stronger than ever to create a breast cancer-free world.

The Estee Lauder Companies’ EVP – Global Communications Alexandra Trower honored by NY Women in Communications at prestigious Matrix Awards

Nearly 1,000 people gathered today at the Matrix Awards, presented by New York Women in Communications (NYWICI), to honor ten extraordinary female leaders in the communications industry, as ‘Women Who Connect the World.’ The awards were emceed by Savannah Guthrie, Co-Anchor of “TODAY” and NBC News Chief Legal Correspondent, and hosted by Interpublic Group.

Among the honorees was The Estee Lauder Companies’ EVP – Global Communications Alexandra Trower. Executive Chairman of The Estee Lauder Companies William P. Lauder presented the prestigious award to Trower who thanked him and stated, “I’ve tried to pass this along to every woman I mentor: it’s so important to ask for help.”

NYWICI also presented it’s first-ever, Matrix “Incite Award” to the three Pulitzer Prize-winning New York Times reporters, who through their writing and body of work, incited action and change for their coverage on sexual misconduct in the workplace.

NYWICI also launched #WomenHeard — a new platform and opportunity for women to share their voices about their career struggles and advice, to help women get what they need in the workplace to succeed, to break down the glass ceiling. Women are invited to use the hashtag #WomenHeard to share their experiences, thoughts and advice on: Career advancement, equality in the workplace, compensation and work-life balance.
