Givaudan Master Perfumer Daniela Andrier has received the 2025 Lifetime Achievement Perfumer Award from the prestigious Fragrance Foundation celebrating her accomplished career and dedication to the art of perfumery.

The distinction was presented on June 5, 2025, in front of an audience of 1,000 industry executives, colleagues, media and notable guests at Lincoln Center in New York City.

“The emotional and creative highs of the evening were heightened to new levels through Daniela Andrier’s mastery of perfumery and storytelling, which were expressed so personally in her presentation. Honouring Daniela with the 2025 Lifetime Achievement Perfumer for her fragrance portfolio and impact in fragrance at Lincoln Center was so appropriate as it is truly an art form. We celebrate the creative artistry and sheer emotion of the artist behind them that inspires and resonates with the consumer,” stated Fragrance Foundation President Linda G. Levy.

“In my work I find inspiration in the unexpected combination of colours and blending the rare with the ordinary. It is essential to avoid clichés and resist the unnecessary urge to be modern. True depth comes from humility – understanding where we come from, appreciating tradition, and recognising the significance of culture in our craft. I am deeply passionate about crafting fragrances, and receiving this prestigious recognition from The Fragrance Foundation USA holds significant meaning for me as a perfumer,” responded Daniela Andrier.

Commencing her academic path studying philosophy at the Sorbonne in Paris, Daniela realised her passion for perfumery. In 1988 she launched her career beginning as an intern at Chanel, soon after joining the revered Roure Perfumery School, which is now part of Givaudan. Today, she continues to bring her talent to the Givaudan creative team as a Master Perfumer. Her most celebrated creations include the ‘Les Infusions’ collection for Prada, MYSLF (in collaboration with Christophe Raynaud and Antoine Maisondieu), and Fleur d’Oranger for Fragonard.

The Estée Lauder Companies has announced the appointment of Lisa Sequino as the new President, Makeup Brand Cluster, responsible for leading the strategic direction and global growth of makeup, and overseeing the company’s portfolio of makeup brands, including M·A·C, Bobbi Brown, Too Faced, Smashbox and GLAMGLOW. Ms. Sequino will report to Jane Hertzmark Hudis, Executive Vice President, Chief Brand Officer and will be effective in the role as of June 9, 2025.

A respected leader with more than two decades of experience in the beauty industry, Ms. Sequino returns to The Estée Lauder Companies with a distinctive blend of deep institutional knowledge and proven success as a CEO. In her new role, she will be responsible for accelerating innovation and makeup trends, step-changing consumer recruitment and enhancing local relevance. Her appointment reflects the company’s continued investment in strengthening its makeup category and unlocking long-term opportunity.

As widely reported, e.l.f. Beauty has acquired Rhode skincare, the vegan, cruelty-free, dermatologist tested skincare company developed by Hailey Bieber, with an assist from brand advisors, Dr. Ron Robinson, a cosmetic chemist and founder of Stat Beauty and Dr. Dhaval Bhanusali, a leading dermatologist with an office at Hudson Yards. The companies have stated it is potentially a $1 billion deal.

Rhode had $212 million in net sales in the 12 months that ended March 31. The company’s products are only available online, but by the end of this year it plans to begin an in-store partnership with Sephora in North America and the U.K.

Bieber, 28, a model and the wife of singer Justin Bieber, will be Rhode’s chief creative officer and head of innovation and also a strategic adviser to the combined companies.

She launched Rhode, which is her middle name as a skin care line in June 2022 and has since expanded the brand to include blushes, colored lip balms and lip liners.

The brand is popular with young consumers and other fans of Bieber’s fresh-faced, casual aesthetic, which has emerged as an alternative to the ultra-glam, heavily made-up looks popularized by Kim Kardashian a decade ago.

In April 2024, Dr. Jean-Yves Parisot was appointed CEO of Symrise where he had been a member of the Executive Board since 2016, being responsible for the Taste, Nutrition & Health segment. He took over as CEO from Dr Heinz-Jürgen Bertram, who retired.

Symrise recently reported their Q1 results. Corporate organic growth was 4.2% with sales rising to €1,317 Million vs €1,292 Million 2024.

In his report, Parisot noted, “We again delivered profitable growth despite continued macroeconomic uncertainty. The Group’s performance is underpinned by our diversified portfolio and unique global platform. We are capturing growth and enhancing margin quality through focused execution of the ONE Symrise strategy, continuous investments in innovation and stronger alignment across our businesses. We remain confident in our outlook for the current year, and in our ability to deliver profitable above-market growth through 2028. Symrise is well positioned to create sustainable long-term value for our customers, partners and shareholders.”

George Ledes had the opportunity to sit down with Dr. Parisot this week to hear his thoughts on how things are going at Symrise, his vision for its future and how he plans to “Unleash the full beauty of ONE Symrise”.

WHAT DO YOU SEE THAT SETS SYMRISE APART FROM THE OTHER FRAGRANCE HOUSES?

First of all, it’s Symrise’s pioneering and innovative spirit that opens up new possibilities in perfumery. It’s in our DNA as we started with our founding act of the first synthesis of Vanillin in 1874. This of course is coupled with our acquisition of the first company to produce and sell “naturals” globally – namely Lautier, 1795, acquired in 1995 – and the company that invented fragrance bases – DeLaire, 1876, also acquired in 1995. We feel our role is to open up new possibilities in perfumery.

We were also the first fragrance house to come out with an AI powered fragrance through “Philyra“.
The understanding we have of synthesis and natural extraction, which puts us in a position to develop unique fragrance ingredients with a focus on renewable and biodegradable.

Symrise also innovates the ecosystem. We imagine connections others don’t see. For instance, SymTrap®, the first ever vegetable and fruit extraction technology. An exclusive cold process methodology that captures the top volatile notes, from fresh, crushed, vegetal materials. The result of synergy between Symrise Fine Fragrance and Diana Food are innovative fragrances being created.

And are also leader in Sustainability, driving the market in terms of backward integration, by securing key raw material and ensuring renewable processes, and innovation.

Again, it’s in our DNA. The first molecule we created was upcycled from pine coniferin. And just last year, we launched Holzminden Lab, our brand dedicated to designing molecules with a critical focus on renewability, biodegradability, and upcycling. For example, one of our molecules, Frostwood TM, which is the backwards integrated side stream from our aroma molecules production in Jacksonville, is 100% renewable, 100% biodegradable, 100% upcycled.

On the naturals side, we are best in class in backward integration. Our vanilla program in Madagascar supports more than 7,000 farmers and families, protects the environment, and secures high-quality vanilla by employing best agricultural practices.

Furthermore, we were the first leading flavors and fragrance house to join UEBT and the First and Only Fragrance House Certified by Forest Stewardship Council®.

IS THERE A MESSAGE/IMPRESSION YOU WANT YOUR TEAM TO CONVEY TO YOUR CUSTOMERS?  WHAT PERCEPTION DO YOU WANT YOUR CUSTOMERS TO HAVE AFTER A SYMRISE PRESENTATION?

WHAT KEY CHALLENGES DO YOU SEE FOR THE FRAGRANCE INDUSTRY IN GENERAL AND SYMRISE IN PARTICULAR IN THE COMING YEARS?

We must stay ahead of the regulatory changes and continue to anticipate these changes and challenges that affect all of us. For sustainability, we need to go further into backward integration into the supply chain, innovating at every step of the value chain. We must also defend our creations against copy infringement, for protecting the value we create for our customers.

WHAT IS YOUR TAKE ON AI IN THE WORK PLACE?

We always embraced AI as a way to fluidity, optimizing and amplifying the work we’re doing.

We were pioneers in how we thought of AI, not as a threat to creation, but as an apprentice to our perfumers – or an extension of our perfumers’ minds! It’s very exciting. And Philyra, our creation tool using generative AI is really meant to be a creative partner for our perfumers. It doesn’t create per se, but it plays a part in the creative process. We built Philyra with IBM and we now have an integrated AI team working to build Scenturion, our new AI tool predicting consumer test results based on formulas and helping perfumers create winning fragrances for the benefit of our customers.

What do you consider the most important component of a successful Fragrance House?

The people. The Culture. Everything that we do at Symrise is to inspire, ignite, and help the creators. 

I have seen a lot about the continued growth of naturals. Do you agree?

Since the relaunch of Lautier, we are committed to an ambitious plan to grow a unique Natural offer on the market which would include our industry-leading backward integration in Madagascar; expanding our facility in Grasse and growing our positive impact in the region; reinforcing the partnership between our Holzminden Lab scientific approach and the naturals; developing new ingredients like the  first ever patchouli in Madagascar; and growing our Human Rights aspects as an integrated program wherever we source naturals.

Estée Lauder has announced that it has signed Dr. Matthew Walker, PhD, as the brand’s first-ever Global Sleep Science Advisor, leveraging his expertise to deepen Estée Lauder’s nighttime skincare research and innovation, while tapping into the global sleep movement to educate consumers on the vital connection between sleep and health.

A renowned author, sleep scientist and Professor of Neuroscience and Psychology at the University of California, Berkeley, Dr. Walker will bring the latest insights, research findings, and resources to advance Estée Lauder’s ongoing work in understanding and resolving the impact of poor sleep on skin health.

“My mission is to educate as many people as possible on the fundamental importance of sleep for our overall health,” said Dr. Walker. “I’m thrilled to partner with Estée Lauder, a brand that is grounded in science, to educate their consumers around the world on the impact of sleep on mind, body and skin.”

Hermès has collaborated with Belgian-Egyptian singer-songwriter Tamino for the digital campaign of its latest flanker, Terre d’Hermès Eau de Parfum Intense.

The Estée Lauder Companies Inc. announced that Michael Bowes has been appointed Executive Vice President, Chief People Officer, effective April 1, 2025, reporting directly to President and Chief Executive Officer, Stéphane de La Faverie. As the first company executive to hold the title of Chief People Officer, Michael will oversee all areas of Global Human Resources, including talent management, career development and organizational design, and, with a people-focused mindset, will drive the organization forward by focusing on continuous culture building.

“Michael is a dynamic leader with a deep passion for people and culture,” said Stéphane. “His strategic vision, commitment to talent development, and ability to foster collaboration across our global organization make him the ideal leader to shape the future of our workforce. Michael joined ELC in 2015 and has led Global Talent Acquisition as well as end-to-end Talent Management for the organization, including Executive Talent Management, Talent Development, and Enterprise Learning and Development. He and his team have successfully implemented a new internal talent marketplace, employee listening surveys, and leadership development programs. His commitment to supporting individual growth and fostering an inclusive culture is evident through his work with various programs and mentorship initiatives.

During his time with the company, Michael has personally demonstrated this commitment through sponsoring programs including From Every Chair and Leading with High Touch, being active in the Reverse Mentor program, and promoting opportunities and development for many team members within HR. His leadership has strengthened ELC’s commitment to fostering an agile, collaborative, and connected workplace.

Before joining ELC, Michael was Managing Director of Executive Search at Karen Harvey Consulting. He also held senior talent management and HR business partner roles at leading retail organizations, including Coach, Nike, Tommy Hilfiger, Cole Haan, and Saks Fifth Avenue.

Michael succeeds Michael O’Hare, Executive Vice President and Chief Human Resources Officer, who has announced his retirement and will step down from his role on April 1, 2025. Over the coming months, Michael will work closely with Michael O’Hare to ensure a seamless transition.

Stéphane de La Faverie, President and CEO of The Estée Lauder Companies today announced the Company’s new organizational structure and Executive Team, to lead the Beauty Reimagined vision and action plan to be the best consumer-centric prestige beauty company in the world, and restore sales growth and stronger profitability.

“Earlier today, I announced Beauty Reimagined, our bold strategic vision for the future of our incredible Company,” said Stéphane. “To deliver our action plan priorities, I am pleased to announce my new Executive Team and structure, reflecting the need to create a flatter, leaner organization and simplified operations across the business to better serve our consumers. Through a combination of elevating top talent internally and recruiting externally, we will make decisions with greater speed and agility, breaking down silos and allowing us to develop a leadership bench for the future.”

This new Executive Team, who together represent decades of deep experience within global prestige beauty, will drive the action plan of Beauty Reimagined and focus the Company on its strengths where it leads and excels, including Brand Desirability, Innovation, Consumer Experience, Quality and End-to-End Execution.

To that end, the Company announced the following updates, with changes effective April 1, 2025:

REGIONAL UPDATES

The Company is consolidating its existing regional organization into four geographic clusters to drive greater synergies and efficiencies, as well as strengthen its agility to better capitalize on consumer trends and locally relevant innovation faster.

  • Nadine Graf will lead a newly expanded geographic cluster, overseeing EMEA, the UK&I team and a newly established and dedicated Emerging Markets cluster, spanning markets such as India, the Middle East, Southeast Asia, and Africa.
  • Tara Simon and Amber English will add Latin America to their responsibilities, creating an Americas cluster, while allowing Latin America and Canada to operate commercially with speed and maximum agility.
  • Joy Fan will continue to lead the Company’s business in mainland China.
  • Matthew Growdon will lead an evolved Asia-Pacific region, excluding mainland China; additionally, Travel Retail Worldwide, led by Olivier Dubos, will report directly into Matthew.

Nadine, Tara, Amber, Joy and Matthew will join the Executive team, reporting directly to Stéphane. The Company notes there will be no changes to its external reporting approach.

BRAND UPDATES

Leading the Company’s powerful brand portfolio will be Jane Hertzmark Hudis – pictured here, who will take on the new title of Executive Vice President, Chief Brand Officer, reporting directly to Stéphane. Jane’s appointment reflects her unwavering commitment to nurturing each brand’s unique equity, and her proven ability to understand and connect with diverse, global consumers. The brands will now be organized by category clusters to foster best practices, break down silos, accelerate faster speed-to-market and drive a more consumer-centric approach. The clusters will be led by the following leaders who will report directly to Jane:

  • Justin Boxford will continue to lead Estée Lauder and AERIN Beauty.
  • Sandra Main will lead the Skin Care brand cluster, including La Mer, Clinique, Origins, Dr.Jart+, Darphin and Lab Series.
  • To be named: The Makeup brand cluster, consisting of M·A·C, Bobbi Brown, Too Faced, Smashbox and GLAMGLOW, will be overseen by a leader who will be named at a later date.
  • Jo Dancey will lead the Lifestyle Fragrance brand cluster with oversight of Jo Malone London, KILIAN PARIS, and Editions de Parfums Frédéric Malle.
  • Guillaume Jesel will continue to lead the Couture brand cluster, including TOM FORD and BALMAIN Beauty.
  • Shane Wolf will continue to lead the Hair Care brand cluster, including AVEDA and Bumble and bumble.

Deborah Royer and Jesper Rasmussen will continue to lead Le Labo and DECIEM, respectively, and will each report directly to Stéphane.

FUNCTION UPDATES

The Company is also dramatically transforming its approach to innovation with the goal of delivering well-executed, fast-to-market, on-trend innovations across subcategories, product benefits and occasions, and high-growth price points.

As part of this effort, the following changes include:

  • In the newly created position of Executive Vice President, Chief Value Chain Officer, Roberto Canevari will now assume leadership of the company’s Packaging and Engineering organizations, in addition to maintaining responsibility for the Global Supply Chain, including global Manufacturing, Fulfillment, Planning, Supplier Management, Quality, Environment, Health & Safety and Region and Brand Value Chains.
  • Carl Haney, Executive Vice President, Global Innovation and Research and Development(R&D), is evolving his role to be solely focused on driving transformative product innovation across every facet of the company’s R&D network, including drastically reducing the amount of time it takes to deliver new innovations to consumers.

The Company will continue to further leverage external partnerships across its R&D and Value Chain to drive greater efficiency, access specialized expertise, and enhance overall operational effectiveness.

As previously announced, following the retirement of Michael O’Hare, Executive Vice President, Chief Human Resources Officer, Michael Bowes has been named Executive Vice President, Chief People Officer of The Estée Lauder Companies. In this role, Michael will focus on driving and expanding the company’s world-class organizational culture, while helping to support the company’s vision and business objectives through people-focused initiatives.

Additionally, efforts are underway to bring in new external talent for Executive roles that will enable the Company to better serve its global consumers in the areas of Technology, Data & Analytics, and in Digital Marketing.

The following members of the Executive Team will continue in their roles:

  • Rashida La Lande, who joined the Company in August 2024 as Executive Vice President, General Counsel, will continue to oversee the Company’s legal strategy, practices and policies globally, as well as maintaining responsibility for the Global Privacy Office and Global Security Team.
  • As Executive Vice President, Chief Financial Officer,Akhil Shrivastava, who assumed the role in November 2024, will continue to lead the Company’s Global Finance, Accounting, Tax, Treasury, Investor Relations and New Business Development organizations.
  • Meridith Webster, Executive Vice President, Global Communications and Public Affairs, will continue to lead the Company’s communications and public affairs strategies, advancing and protecting its business interests and corporate reputation globally.

In summary, Stéphane’s Executive Team will consist of the following leaders:
