Louis Vuitton’s Ambre Levant

AMBRE LEVANT: THE RADIANCE OF THE GOLDEN HOUR

There exists a moment when the world takes on a profound intensity, when the sun begins its descent and the sky turns to amber just before surrendering to the night. In that captivating golden hour, the sky retains the warmth of the day while its memory lingers in the air.

From one horizon to the other, this light envelops the landscape, erasing distances. Such radiance exerts a singular power of attraction. Gradually, the world seems transformed by a new energy as the first stirrings of evening take shape. Everything quickens and intensifies, as if carried by a single impulse. Ambre Levant is born of the instant when amber light rises, uniting sky and earth with its colour.

The Precious Alliance of Amber and Oud

With the precision and generosity that define his style, Jacques Cavallier Belletrud imagines a composition that captures an instant and expresses its full intensity. The Master Perfumer signs a fragrance with a thousand nuances, worked like a burst of golden radiance that unfurls to reveal all its richness. This creation is anchored in the union of two emblematic raw materials — amber and oud — brought together in an interpretation of striking modernity. “Amber has been with me since the very beginning and has always held the same fascination for me. As a child, it was one of the first notes I discovered in my father’s laboratory.  It has guided my work ever since.” Here, he embraces amber in all its dimensions: the richness of a resinous amber, allied with the contemporary tonalities of ambergris, with its saline tones and profoundly human animality. From this union emerges a creation in which the ancestral traditions of perfume and its most contemporary language speak to one another, revealing a new radiance.

The Master Perfumer began with a luscious mandarin, whose ripe freshness brings a gourmand brightness to the skin. Its fruity accents call forth a breath of warm spices: effusive cardamom, luminous cinnamon, an intriguing note of white pepper, and a touch of saffron to intensify warmth. Together, they lend the composition its beguiling tension and a gentle evocation of Eastern indulgences. Then the amber notes unfold in full, with the resinous warmth of labdanum, the purity of white incense, and the mineral vibration of a contemporary ambergris giving the accord its captivating radiance. The alliance is then sealed with an exceptional essence of oud, sourced in Bangladesh from a supply exclusive to Louis Vuitton. This ‘black gold’, an emblematic treasure of Middle Eastern perfumery, multiplies tenfold the composition’s depth and intensity. For Jacques Cavallier Belletrud, it is among the most sensual woods that exist: “This one is unique, of exceptional quality. Its woody character, of rare refinement, reveals a very subtle animality and an elegance that is at once spicy and ambered.” The absolute amber signature, Ambre Levant draws out the light of the golden hour and extends its radiance onto the skin.

The Flacon

The iconic Louis Vuitton flacon, rendered in transparent black glass, here takes on a deep, warm amber hue. The radiance of the golden hour seems to emanate from within the glass itself. This flacon may be refilled at stores equipped with a perfume fountain.

Louis Vuitton’s Exceptional Oud

In the northeast of Bangladesh, in the misty, tropical region of Sylhet, oud forms in the heart of aquilaria forests, behind curtains of mangrove that filter out the light. There, over the course of many long years, a natural infection is triggered, giving rise to a dark and precious resin  that  artisans extract with remarkable precision and skill. Each tree is harvested at a rhythm that respects biodiversity and preserves the balance of the forest. It is at the heart of this region that Louis Vuitton has forged an exclusive partnership with a family that has preserved this savoir-faire for 200 years. This supply chain cultivates the luxury of time. It takes no less than 30 years for the resin to develop its full aromatic complexity and richness. The family allows the trees time to reach that degree of maturity — a rare patience that endows the material with exceptional quality. This deliberately rarefied production offers the Maison an oud whose clarity and refinement make it a precious ingredient, far removed from the saturated clichés that surround it. For Jacques Cavallier Belletrud, oud is bound to a formative memory: he first encountered its emanations as a young apprentice — an olfactory shock that marked the beginning of a fascination that has endured ever since. This quest led him to lands where oud is tended, harvested and distilled as a living heritage. A single drop is enough to conjure a distant horizon. In Louis Vuitton creations, this oud reveals a majestic, profound and contemporary elegance. At once a botanical treasure and a cultural patrimony, it constitutes for the Maison material for the future, capable of inspiring new modes of expression while preserving a precious heritage.
