Symrise Strengthens Cosmetic Ingredients team with industry expert

Bernd Heinken has joined Symrise as of February 2019, taking over the newly created position of Technical Director Micro Protection for the Europe, Africa and Middle East (EAME) region. He is thereby strengthening the Cosmetic Ingredients Division in Scent & Care. Heinken previously worked at Schülke & Mayr GmbH for many years.

Dr. Ravi Pillai, Vice President Micro Protection in Cosmetic Ingredients, added, “With Bernd, we can further strengthen our presence in the cosmetic raw materials market. Our goal is to be the most important partner for our customers when choosing safe, effective and consumer-friendly anti-microbial ingredients and to provide them with the right raw materials. This is in line with our growth strategy for the important area of classic and alternative preservation.”

After graduating as a chemical engineer with a focus on process engineering at the Münster University of Applied Sciences, Bernd Heinken worked for several years in research and development departments at various companies in the technical industry. Bernd joined Schülke & Mayr GmbH in Norderstedt, in 1998 and initially worked for four years in the application technology department for preservation. In 2002, he took over the role as International Market Manager responsible for the Technical Biocide Business at Schülke & Mayr. From 2009, he led the Technical Support Department “Special Additives” within Schülke with a focus on microbiological laboratory service, training and seminars, and implementing holistic microbiological quality management systems (MQM). Heinken is also active in various associations and expert groups such as DGK and EDANA.
