This year’s Fall/Winter 2023 collection is a tribute to the
French Renaissance and its opulent art, architecture, and
design. This unique part of French history has long been
admired for its beauty, elegance, and refinement.
The French Renaissance, which took place in the 16th
century, was characterized by its focus on art and culture. A
time when fashion, architecture and paintings were at their
height and the French style was considered the most refined
in Europe.
THE INSPIRATION
The French Renaissance, known for its opulence and
grandeur, has been a source of inspiration for the house of
Balmain since its establishment in 1945.
Pierre Balmain, who began studying architecture before
becoming a couturier, believed that “dressmaking is the
architecture of movement”. His fascination with the French
labyrinths resulted in the creation of the brand’s PB logo
motif back in 1945.
The house’s current Creative Director, Olivier Rousteing
reinterpreted this labyrinth pattern for his recently introduced
1945 collection.
This new collection captures the essence of the Renaissance
era, its ornate architecture, lavish furnishings, plastered
ceilings, shimmering mirrors and meticulous gardens,
through the traditional elements of luxury.
