International Award in honor of the Dominican Emigrant Oscar de la Renta

An International Award to the Dominican Emigrant Mr. Oscar de la Renta was presented at a ceremony that took place on December 6th at the Sala Principal, Carlos Piantini, Teatro Nacional of the Dominican Republic.  This year’s recipient was Dr. Rafael Antonio Lantigua.  Dr. Rafael Antonio Lantigua graduated from the Universidad Autónoma de Santo Domingo. 

Foreign Minister Miguel Vargas presented the “International Award to the Dominican Emigrant Mr. Oscar de la Renta” to Dr. Rafael Antonio Lantigua, during a ceremony held this Thursday in the Carlos Piantini Hall of the Eduardo Brito National Theater. The winner of this first delivery of the award is a prominent doctor, resident in the United States, with extensive community work in favor of the Dominican diaspora. In addition to a trophy, he received a parchment and a recognition plaque.

Foreign Minister Miguel Vargas detailed the merits of Dr. Lantigua, “an exceptional human being”, who “has contributed with great contributions to the community where he lives and to the Dominican Republic, under the auspices of Columbia University, the Presbyterian Hospital and the New York Medical Association. ” He added that the award-winning “is an active member of the Coalition for the Rights of Immigrants, the National Hispanic Leadership Agenda (NHLA), among many other organizations.” 

Foreign Minister Miguel Vargas indicated that the prize is part of the foreign policy outlined by President Danilo Medina, in order to strengthen the links between Dominican residents abroad and their country of origin.  In that order, the figure of Mr. Oscar de la Renta exalted a great Dominican of exceptional humility and kindness. But also of the prototype of successful emigrant, worker, dedicated and with the homeland in his heart “.

Foreign Minister Miguel Vargas thanked the De la Renta family for the support given to the award.

 Along with Foreign Minister Vargas, the first lady Cándida Montilla de Medina and Ambassador Angelita García de Varga attended the ceremony. In addition, government officials, as well as representatives of the National Congress and the high courts; added to heads of diplomatic and consular missions accredited in the country.

Also present were the members of the permanent commission and jury of the award, headed by its president, José Luis -Pepín – Corripio Estrada, president of the Corripio Group. With him, Haydée Kuret Pacheco de Rainieri, senior vice president of Grupo Puntacana S. A .; and Eliza Bolen, vice president of the firm Oscar de la Renta, LLC.

 Along with them, Carlos Gabriel García, vice minister for Communities Abroad; and Ambassador Polibio Díaz, in charge of the Department of Cultural Affairs of the Directorate of Specialized Diplomacy; both officials of the Mirex.

 The award ceremony included an artistic show during which the Dominican Emigrant Hymn was premiered, official song of the Frank Ceara authorship award, The audience also enjoyed the performances of Maridalia Hernández, Héctor Aníbal, Eliacim, Ana Rivas, Carolina Rivas and Javier Grullón.
