After 30 years in the music and film industry, the UK’s Danny Donnelly has finally been lured across the pond to the hub of the entertainment industry, Hollywood. Already in post production on one documentary feature film, Bass Impact, which details the incredible story of the digital music industry, and how it has penetrated every aspect of pop culture as told by some of the most iconic digital music artists in the world today, he is already onto his next. Working title, Under the Influence, this documentary explores the effects of social media on our mental health, and features such Insta-stars as Kandee Johnson, Ben Hampton and Jeremy Fragrance, and mental health experts including Audrey Gruss of the Hope for Depression Research Foundation. “It is such an important topic and one that effects all of us,” Donnelly says.

At just 16-years-old, Donnelly opened his first record store and became one of the pioneers in the digital music space. His music store became home to many global household names who were welcomed to use his music equipment to create their own tracks and put them on the floor for his customers. Creating a catalog of music motivated him to create his own music label, Suburban Base Records, that became the most successful Urban and Dance album brand. His passion, focus and ability to know what would be “the next big thing” resulted in over 50 platinum and gold records. His compilations have been among the UKs biggest selling album brands, influencing youth culture and music trends since their first release.

Donnelly has now leveraged his success in the music industry to move into producing and directing film. His prophetic nature of discovering talent and trends, resulted in him casting a little-known actor, Letitia Wright (Black Panther) who in 2018, was named “box office star of the year”. After producing six films — all that went into distribution, it was time for move to a bigger stage and move to LA.

Having has now expanded his business model by launching Pure Media Studios, a full-service film and music production studio. “My goal has always been to discover amazing talent both in front of and behind the camera. My content is spearheaded by being on the pulse of what’s happening and being able to forecast trends.” With this film, Donnelly has used his knowledge and unique experience to bring to light aspects of this important subject never been revealed before. By pairing great young talent with the most reputable and successful partners who share his passion and vision, this film is sure to make Danny Donnelly one of the more prominent names in the entertainment world today.

Health & Fitness Influencer Jen Selter -who recently graced the cover of the Influencer issue of Metropolitan Magazine published by Chase Backer with Editor Adam Kluger, has been nominated for an Influencer Award in Monaco. The event will take place in Monte Carlo in October.

Jen was one of the first fitness influencers, starting her journey back in 2012. The 2019 Fragrance Foundation Awards—an annual event which celebrates the extraordinary talent and achievements of the fragrance world, was held on Wednesday, June 5th, in the David H. Koch Theatre at Lincoln Center in NYC. Hosted by award-winning actress Jane Krakowski,  the Awards honored iconic designer Tom Ford, IFF Master Perfumer Dominique Ropion, and Nest Fragrances Founder & CEO Laura Slatkin.

Actor Henry Golding, the dashing star of Crazy Rich Asians, presented the Award to Mr. Ford who was inducted into The Fragrance Foundation Hall of Fame. Accepting the award — his seventeenth Fragrance Foundation Award, Ford spoke eloquently about his life-long love of fragrance.  “Since I was a child, I was obsessed with the smell of things,” he confided in a video tribute to his work. Before the end of the night, he would go on to win his eighteenth Fragrance Foundation Award, for Tom Ford Lost Cherry, which was named Women’s Luxury Fragrance of the Year.

Dominique Ropion, Master Perfumer at International Flavors & Fragrances Inc (IFF), was celebrated as the 2019 recipient of the Lifetime Achievement, Perfumer Award. The award was presented by Nicolas Mirzayantz, Group President of Fragrances at IFF. When Ropion — who has created such classic scents as Mugler’s Alien and Frederic Malle Portrait of A Lady. took the stage, the audience burst into thunderous applause and standing ovation for the great “master of flowers.”  Also, as a historic first for The Fragrance Foundation Awards, the evening featured an exclusive ambient fragrance created by Ropion, called Fleurs d’un Soir, which translates to Flowers of the Evening, and included notes of orris root, rose, and jasmine.

NEST Fragrances Founder & CEO, Laura Slatkin, was recognized as this year’s “Game Changer.” Her husband Harry Slatkin, presented the award with a heartfelt speech about her hard work and immense impact on home fragrance and on autism – a cause near and dear to their family. After a brief film celebrating Laura’s achievements, with testimonials from luminaries such as Leonard Lauder and Tommy Hilfiger, The Fragrance Foundation announced its new Give Back initiative will support NEXT for Autism

The star-studded event organized by Fragrance Foundation President Linda G. Levy was attended by such talent as Grammy Nominee Bebe Rexha; actress Michelle Pfeiffer – who recently launched her own line of fine fragrances with IFF called Henry Rose; designer Jason Wu, accompanied by Victoria’s Secret model Martha Hunt; DJ, author and founder of HBFIT Hannah Bronfman, CoverGirl and dietitian Maye Musk; Harper’s Bazaar’s Glenda Bailey, Cosmopolitan’s Jessica Pels, Carine Roitfeld – who also just launched her own line of fragrances called 7 Lovers, and Martha Stewart.

Between awards, Jerry Vittoria, Fragrance Foundation Chairman of the Board and President of Fine Fragrance Worldwide at Firmenich delivered a rousing speech about the future of fragrance and the challenges facing the industry, calling crucial attention to issues in the American market, where “many American consumers are intimidated by fragrances [and] some have been led to believe fragrances are dangerous.” He counseled that “we must find a way forward with smart transparency,” and reminded the assembled audience of industry leaders that “our united voices on this topic will be as important as any award given tonight.”

Jeremy Fragrance is the #1 Fragrance Influencer in the World.

With more than 700,000 subscribers on YouTube and 100,000 followers on Instagram, and others on Facebook, he not only has a loyal and dedicated following of fragrance enthusiasts but a growing career in fragrance as well.

He raised approximately $800,000 in just 30 days with a record-breaking Kick Starter campaign last year and launched  his own brand, Fragrance One available at www.fragrance.one

His first fragrance, Office for Men, by Master Perfumer Alberto Morillas of Firmenich shipped in May.

For the second year in a row, Jeremy has captured the hearts of the fragrance world to win the prestigious Fragrance Foundation Consumer Choice Award for Fragrance Influencer of the Year 2019 — This award honors a creative fragrance influencer with significant reach through social media. It is judged on concept and execution, fragrance storytelling, resonance of message and reach throughout their body of work in 2018, according to the Fragrance Foundation.

The Beauty Influencers caught-up with Jeremy who still lives primarily in Germany, but is spending more and more time in New York and LA due to his popularity among brands lined-up to parter with him.

Here’s what he had to say…

I’m a Fragrance Brand Owner as well as Fragrance Critique.

My journey started in 2014 and after two years of simple passion for fragrances, I decided to make this my full time job. Ever since then, I started a monk-like discipline, smelling 55 fragrance oils every morning, punishing myself with push ups when guessing the oils wrong, attending every fragrance relevant event in my reach, working with big brands, working on my own fragrance, basically dedicating my whole life to the topic of fragrances since I feel I can leave something special with this nice interesting fragrance journey. Its an adventure, dear readers!

I was born in Germany and always went the artistic way, as well as the entrepreneurial way. meaning I started at school theater, joined the youth dancers theater, went to the state theater, joined a boy band, became a fragrance reviewer on YouTube. I always liked the idea -like most people, I think, to constantly improve myself. And fragrances have always been a part of simply easily improving yourself and finding your signature style.

After four years of being an online Fragrance Influencer and especially winning my first award from the highly respected Fragrance Foundation, it was time to go the next level with my own fragrance brand. My dream perfumer pick for this project, the legendary Alberto Morillas  We scored over 6,500 bottles sold of fragrance within 30 days –sold blindly without giving away samples, that was very new in the fragrance industry.

The campaign had a record breaking $880,000 score of preorders in sales. I’m very happy and engaged since its finally my own product and its a great feeling if people buy and like what you produce, dear readers.

I have an online Campaign with GQ Germany about “The Modern Man“ and I have been mentioned in numerous magazines around the world from FOKUS magazine in Germany to The Daily Nation in Nairobi. I mostly care about online since its easily linkable to my social media platforms. Just one click on the link and you are on my video. Magazines are still important however –one hundred percent! Its just cool to have a great magazine in your hand.

Next, I will be launching a Limited Edition Candle for the Cozy Winter time and many fragrances are in the pipeline if we approve them. At this stage, people expect nothing but the best of the best of the best. So a respectable follow-up after the big success of Office for Men will come.

I have either spoken to or worked with most of the big beauty companies. Its great that they respect the importance of a fragrance influence on social media. Its not only the traditional TV Commercial anymore. Nowadays people read and listen to what others experience with a perfume on line. This means the “Influencers“ have a very important role in this big business of fragrances, dear, fantastic readers.

The Fragrance Group was thrilled to host Fragrance Foundation Award Winning Influencer @Jeremy Fragrance at the Dillard’s Pembroke Pines location on Friday afternoon, October 19th.  Jeremy, in partnership with Tous Fragrances, greeted fans from his “Fragrance Army” in celebration of the launch of Tous’ newest Women’s Fragrance Oh! The Origin

To create this fragrance, I was inspired by a love story between a man and a woman. The masculine fragrance, 1920 The Origin, embodying the spirit of TOUS; was designed for a young, sophisticated, elegant and attractive man. I imagined the woman seduced by the sheer magnetism of the masculine fragrance. I chose to combine roses, which embody romance, with orris, a more elegant key component of the fragrance, which is an iconic duo of classic perfumery. With an irresistible appeal, the floral notes emerge through a fresh and bright fruit cocktail: tangerines, lemons and blackcurrants. The seduction then reaches its more sensual notes with the warm allure of waves of vanilla, musk, tonka beans and ambrox. The men’s and women’s fragrances compliment each other sharing a positive characteristic which is represented by a touch of pink pepper in both fragrances,” stated perfumer Daphné Bugey of Firmenich.

Jeremy Fragrance’s partnership with The Fragrance Group spans many brands, fragrance houses and retailers. This synergy between a retailer, a leading influencer, a brand and a consumer in one space is a key focus of CEO Alex Shalbaf and Sr. VP Alan Beck’s strategy to make their brands top of mind to today’s consumer.  “Dillard’s excitement and significant contribution to the success of this event is in the true spirit of partnership and is above and beyond what could be expected,” stated Beck.

“Dillard’s was excited to partner with The Fragrance Group to launch the new Tous fragrance, Oh! The Origin, at our Pembroke location.  In partnership with leading influencer, Jeremy Fragrance, our guests were treated to an interactive, exciting event that pulled from both social media and store clienteling.  This intersection of entertainment and great product was a winning formula for both Dillard’s and the Tous brand,” stated Andrea Toney, DMM Fragrance at Dillard’s.

Jeremy Fragrance is the leading Fragrance Influencer with 487,000 subscribers on his main YouTube channel (and another 108,000 on his German channel), and 72,000 followers on Instagram.

“As most influencers, I just started out of passion and when the numbers and views came, I stuck to it,” Jeremy says of his success. “You have to understand that being an Influencer is a full time job and even after your 273rd video you still better be sure that you are passionate about the topic you choose. That’s where I made the decision two years ago, I have now been doing Youtube for four years. I said that I would do this full time and focus all my life energy on this fragrance project, I want to be known worldwide as “The Fragrance Guy“ –the man that started reviewing fragrances on YouTube and now has his own world of brands, all in the world of fragrances.”

“As an Influencer you can expand your brand just like any other celebrity and even more. The internet gives you many possibilities. Justin Bieber was the first mega influencer, he started on YouTube.” he says. “My next two projects are a Portable Fragrance Atomizer and my own fragrance, in collaboration with Alberto Morillas of Firmenich.”

Born in Oldenburg, a small town not far away from Hamburg in North Germany, Jeremy tells us life was very healthy there, great air and lots of people cycling there, so he rode his bike daily from the age of 7 to 18-years-old. But he always knew he would have to leave Oldenberg to find new paths in life and expand his world view.

He discovered the power of Youtube when he made a channel about dancing, and it was a big success. Unfortunately, that channel got deleted. He then discovered his passion for fragrance and decided to try again. Clearly, that was a good decision!

He now has a monthly column in Inside Beauty — Germany’s most important retail magazine for fragrances and has been featured in other publications including Germany’s  General Anzeiger and Fokus. He believes magazines are still relevant –especially for influencers, wanting to get their message across to various segments of the market. “It’s all about trust and authenticity,” he says. “I care a lot about online, of course, but my dream is to have a nice house with my own library where I can read non-stop about fragrance.”

“Most of the big brands know, but I will always have this Robin Hood feeling that I’m a part of the end consumer while understanding how the industry works, but my core heart feeling will always be thinking from the consumer perspective. It’s like I’m speaking friend-to-friend and not B-to-B.”

“Jeremy’s passion for fragrance -and life, is what attracts his subscribers. It’s authentic and it shows. He is never going to say he likes a fragrance if he doesn’t, just to get paid,” says a fan.

Oh, The Origin by Tous is available at Dillard’s and at Dillards.com

The 2018 winners of The Fragrance Foundation Awards were announced at a black tie dinner at Lincoln Center’s Alice Tully Hall in New York City. The star-studded event, hosted by award-winning actress Jane Krakowski, honored Game Changer Frédéric Malle, Fragrance Industry Icon Ann Gottlieb, and Master Perfumer Olivier Cresp, among others. Estée Lauder Chairman Emeritus Leonard Lauder – who recently celebrated his 60th anniversary in the business, presented the award to Frédéric Malle.

“Tonight’s winners, finalists and honorees represent the very best of the fragrance industry,” said Linda G. Levy, president of The Fragrance Foundation. “They bring to life the artistry and passion that makes fragrance so transformative and inspiring.”

In total, nineteen winning fragrances were announced, showcasing the richness and diversity of today’s fragrance industry. Winners represented the best in women’s, men’s, home and bath & body fragrance.
